About Ghost Ranch

Ghost Ranch, covering a 21,000 acre area, was part of the original land grant to Pedro Martin Serrano from the King of Spain in 1766. It passed through various hands. In 1955, Arthur and Phoebe Pack gave the ranch to the Presbyterian Church, where it is now a conference center.

Georgia O'Keeffe bought a house on the ranch in the 1930's and painted there. (She later bought and restored a house in the nearby village of Abiquiu)

If you happened to see City Slickers, you've seen some of Ghost Ranch, since a lot of the movie was filmed there.

Accomodations at the Ranch

Housing at the ranch is fairly rustic and modest. Ghost Ranch provides clean, simple accomodations but the rooms are not fancy. A warm robe and slippers are recommended as bathrooms are often located a few steps from your room. There is no maid service; you get a change of linens in the middle of the week. We will be housed in dorm-style rooms. . .with a roommate (start thinking about requesting that roommate; single occupancy comes extra).

Phones in the rooms? What, are you kidding? There are a few pay phones located here and there at the ranch. They're the nice old-fashioned kind that have dials that make the sound, "zhiiiin-da-da-da-da-da." You come to Ghost Ranch to get away from such encumbrances as phone and modem. : )

Meals are served in the cafeteria. Ghost Ranch serves wholesome, homemade food, featuring regional specialties and seasonal local produce. Meals are served cafeteria style and guests bus their own dishes at the end of each meal.

Getting to Ghost Ranch
