BryceTalk Skies, July 22, 1999
Part 5

painter: Rendering goes faster when I keep the mouse moving and slows down when the mouse is stationary. I have a Mac G3 powerbook. Is this a bug?

Dr. Mojo: No kidding...

Dr. Mojo: That apparently is th powersave feature. Drives me NUTS on mine!

Meta AuntiAlias: that sounds odd to me, painter....

aaah...

that makes sense

Calyxa: didn't mmurphy show you that, AA?

Yojimbo: ahhh

Dr. Mojo: Gotta stroke it, literally, to make it go!

norm: Gotta go, but I'm sure glad I could make it; so glad to hear what's coming in the cloud area. Bye all! Thank you!!

Calyxa: he showed me, some kind of semi-sleep mode...

Meta AuntiAlias: make sure that your plug-in electric settings are for now power save

Sky Pilot: Tickle it

Clay: LOL

Meta AuntiAlias: if you're rendering when under battery power, then that's what you may hafta do.. er.. tickle it

Dr. Mojo: That doesn't fix it. Drives me BATS.

Meta AuntiAlias: (this computer that I'm connected to BryceTalk right now is a power book)

Dr. Mojo: Girlie little Macs...

Meta AuntiAlias: G3 (older one)

Cricket: I have to wiggle my mouse to restart a stuck download. But that's a PC thing with mouse and modem sharing a port.

stiffkat: get a half mad gerbil and tie it over the mouse..wheeeeeeeee

painter: NO it happens when I'm plugged in

camel: Hewhe!!

painter: New G3

Clay: me too

Meta AuntiAlias: then check your control panel settings sfor energy Saver...

Clay: again !

Meta AuntiAlias: to never slow down when you're plugged in

Dr. Mojo: Yeah, turning off power save doesn't help. "It's a feature."

Ringo: ?

Meta AuntiAlias: Clay, you gotta comment? go for it!!

stiffkat: all computers should have a 'disable garbage for graphic artists' setting

Clay: Sky Pilot, here's a scene in the works, well on the backburner: http://www.phase2.net/claygraphics/test_page.html and yes I know the Camo is wrong for the terrain:-)

Sky Pilot: Amen!

Dr. Mojo: Nice! DEM?

Clay: did I spell Sordie Right?

no Greyscale

Yojimbo: Sortie I believe

Calyxa: Sortie

Dr. Mojo: Sortie?

Clay: ok:-)

LOL

Yojimbo: usually followed by a number or ID

Sky Pilot: Not too shabby!!

Wolfie: Clay: did you see my camo materials on my page? got the right ones!

Yojimbo: looks good though

Clay: I just threw it together

desdanova: Its a french word...

Clay: will look Wolf

Cricket: Cows in Flight!

Just kidding

Clay: LOL

Calyxa: moooo!

camel: Goood!! Sky pigs!!!

Dr. Mojo: Clay: Is that a DEM terrain?

Rosy: moooving picture

stiffkat: rofl

Reflash: one hell of a kick though

Clay: whoosh mooo whoosh

Yojimbo: BTW you can turn Energy Saver Off in the energy saver control panel

Clay: no Mojo

it's a greyscale

Sky Pilot: Nice

Dr. Mojo: Cool.

Clay: thanks

Meta AuntiAlias: Ringo has a question.... go ahead Ringo!

Ringo: Dr. Mojo...are you going to put your sky tutorials on the web? Also what happen to your website you had lots of great info.

Yojimbo: That should stop the power down while your P Book is plugged in

Meta AuntiAlias: can I take the first part, Ken?

Sky Pilot: Seem to recall something about underwater CP

Dr. Mojo: My website moved to www.wizardnet.com/musgrave.

I will do sky tutorials, I *promise.*

Wolfie: clay: http://www.wolfiesden.com/bryce/gallery/general005.html

Frodo10: Who was the guy that tput that sunset here for downloading?

Meta AuntiAlias: Tutorial/deeper explanation of color perspective is in the works for website. The movie page you see is sortuv an advanced phase of it!

Clay: k

Ringo: thanks. ..Aunti.

Dr. Mojo: Right now I'm having too much fun reverse engineering Eric Wenger's DTE>

Clay: LOL

Wolfie: hehe

painter: I disabled the power save feature (incl dimming) but it still goes faster when I keep the Mouse moving.

Ringo: OH, well DTE comes first.

Sky Pilot: Ka-25?

Meta AuntiAlias: The DTE *always* comes first!

Dr. Mojo: Yes, there is no stopping the need to stroke it. It's like a needy dog.

desdanova: What, no documentation?

Cricket: Wolfie...that's great. Barrels are a great touch! So real

Wolfie: it just wants attention painter!

Clay: (whispering....I had that model once wolf! heheheh)

Ringo: done thanks.

Wolfie: ambiance of the barrels was wrong..way too high

Meta AuntiAlias: painter, maybe.. maybe you gotta restart it to really get it to follow your commands (tho MacOS would tell you as much, so perhaps I lie...)

Dr. Mojo: I like the gerbil fix!

Gigabyte: hi

stiffkat: LOL Mo

Gigabyte: is it over?

Reflash: not till....

Meta AuntiAlias: very nearly, Gigabyte....

DaleP: Gotta Go- Thanx Ken, John, Aunti, Clay, stiffkat & all :-)

stiffkat: amazing what can be done with crazed bitty animals..........

Gigabyte: band!

Cricket: Me too...Ciao!

Meta AuntiAlias: any last things to add, Sky Pilot? : )

Clay: cya

Clay: Dale

Meta AuntiAlias: yeah, we been at it for 2 hours!

Sky Pilot: I have one more oddity

Dr. Mojo: 'Specially dead cats, StiffKat!

Wolfie: I still have a cloud ? susan

Reflash: primo

Ringo: Just a comment I'm working on a new version of the Nuclear blast...got the Idea from D. Mojos website. Thanks.

Calyxa: gonna go see if I can catch the shuttle launch... thanks, Sky Pilot and Doc Mojo

Sky Pilot: http://members.aol.com/beyondvr/clap.html

stiffkat: heh, well that's a story for another time.....

Clay: cya Caly

Dr. Mojo: Oooh, I wanna see yer nuke!

Sky Pilot: This is a picture I did, where a weird lighting effect showed up.

Sky Pilot: Everything was normal until I added the string of "stage lights." They interacted, and I liked the effect.

Rosy: ah! I love this one

Sky Pilot: The wireframe is to show, albeit in 2D, where the lights were placed. I haven't investigated this further, but I got the impression it's not that predictable!

Dr. Mojo: clap.html--you guys are NUTS! (In a good way, of course...)

Wolfie: it is kinda bizarre

Rosy: crossbeams of light

Clay: I just wanna say thanks guys for droppin by, I know you all are tired from work, but it's nice to have the people behind the scenes stop by for a chat:-)

Sky Pilot: Thank You!

Rosy: thanks

Wolfie: yea...I JUST HAD to load it to see what the "clap" reference was to!

;)

Clay: Very Welcome:-)

Yojimbo: Hey Ken

one Q

Dr. Mojo: Yes?

Meta AuntiAlias: BTW---- next week is a free-for-all Open Mic night! talk about anything MetaCreations/Bryce related you want to!

camel: No thank you!!!;)

Rosy: oh goody!

Clay: oh my LOL!!

stiffkat: yeah Mo, aunti, john, thanks for all the help

Wolfie: ;;so what do the "fixed cloudplane" and "Spherical Clouds" do actually?

Yojimbo: Is the MilkyWay stars you use as a background a 2D Pict texture?

Meta AuntiAlias: yeah, that was John's suggestion... better make sure he's HERE next week for that one! :D

Sky Pilot: It's been fun!

Clay: thanks Again

stiffkat: wolfie, spherical will poof them out

Yojimbo: IE the picts for your bookcover and planetrise.jpg

Dr. Mojo: No, it's a procedural texture. I want to make it a volume and make a whole galaxy! "We have the technology."

stiffkat: they get less defined

Yojimbo: YES!

Dr. Mojo: You want SLOW, that'll get it to you!

Wolfie: Wheeee!!!!!

Yojimbo: I've have been trying my damndest to get this effect and just can't do it right

LOL

Steve Lareau: I know slow.... =D

Yojimbo: hehe

stiffkat: ah, but it makes some pretty clouds Mo

Clay: Sky...

Sky Pilot: yeah?

Clay: one more for the road..: http://www.phase2.net/claygraphics/planetary.html

using clouds again

Wolfie: so what does the fixed cloud plane do?

Dr. Mojo: It's a multifractal texture that I'm sure only I would come up with. Comes from experiments Mandelbrot tried to suppress (no lie.) (And I'm not even paranoid.) ("Trust me.")

Meta AuntiAlias: nice, Clay

Clay: thanks

Rosy: take me to that planet Clay...now! :-)

Yojimbo: lol

k

Clay: LOL

Yojimbo: was gonna ask if you knew the settings off hand

Clay: I'm from venus LOL

Rosy: me too!

stiffkat: you're fighting mandlebrot? sounds like me trying to learn winfract LOL

Yojimbo: but I'll veer off on that one

Steve Lareau: Rendering a baby dancing on the rim of the black hole animation- Wheeee!!!!

Clay: hahahah

Yojimbo: lol

Ringo: http://members.xoom.com/rfmgraphics/gallery4.html

Steve Lareau: no chaps yet though.... I NEED POSER CHAPS! ANYONE?

Clay: :-(

Dr. Mojo: I love that one, Clay. Reminds me of one of mine: http://www.wizardnet.com/musgrave/pleiades4.jpg

Sky Pilot: Now, that IS nice!

Now, that IS nice!

Steve Lareau: this is so sick it should be a hoot!

Clay: thanks:-)

Clay: goin now Mojo

Ringo: The new is rendering rightnow...its in the desert is call lost highway. the nuclear blast is much better.

Yojimbo: http://www.50megs.com/yojimbo

Meta AuntiAlias: w/b Sky

camel: Oh man that was good!!!

Sky Pilot: Sorry, got kicked off

Yojimbo: that's about as close as I got with the stars

stiffkat: steve, poser 4 has a baby now too.....you're gonna have to break down and get it

Dr. Mojo: Mean ol' uncle Benni (he hates it when I call him that) was my mentor. But he didn't approve of everything I did. ;-)

Sky Pilot: Beautiful, Clay

camel: Thanks Auntie!!!:)

Clay: I dig that Background Mojo

Yojimbo: hehe Mentors rarely do

Clay: Mojo!

Meta AuntiAlias: camel, you're welcome...!

camel: Cya Mojo!!

Clay: did you check out mojomuse.com?

Dr. Mojo: Yeah, that's him mapped onto the moon on a variation of the same image at te top of my home page: http://www.wizardnet.com/musgrave

Meta AuntiAlias: I think it's.. er.... official wrapup time.... meaning that I'll do a final save of the log and let this happy free-for-all continue as long as youse guys and gals and others want... : )
