Journeyman: 100+ is good for most medium size files gdmsynth: It depends on the file size. Topaz: ok, silly question :P AuntiAlias: tho I've never worked with more than 130-140 or so to Bryce Topaz: is 256 good? Journeyman: I have 98 and I can handle about 60mb Clay: it also depends on your bus speed on your system Journeyman: that should be really good Topaz Clay: for rendering speeds AuntiAlias: Queue: Clay, MplsOiBoi AuntiAlias: 256 is excellent! Topaz: too bad i only have half that :) gdmsynth: I'm rendering a 137M file with only 128M RAM and virtual memory set to 384M AuntiAlias: For those of you who've just joined us, we're discussing working with large scene files... and sharing tips and asking questions... If you have a tip, please type ! and if you have a question, please type ? Done, Topaz? Clay: go for it!! Clay: I have also found that when making a greyscale in Photoshop or whatever, for a terrain, that a 220x220 image size at 72 dpi works pretty well, then high rez it in Bryce to get good effects, Done. (book stuff I think or just my experimentin I dunnoLOL!!) AuntiAlias: MplsOiBoi MplsOiBoi: In 3D Studio Max there's an optimization function which helps reduce the number of faces in a scene, this is usually done after modeling is completed and before rendering (of course). Is there a similar function in B4? Also, can bus speed be improved? AuntiAlias: No, not a similar function in Bryce, Mpls MplsOiBoi: :( AuntiAlias: bus speed.. that's a hardware issue, seems like to me Clay: ( bus speed is increased with a faster puter) MplsOiBoi: Motherboard dependent, eh? Thought so. Double :( AuntiAlias: We've got a lull in the queue here! jpladue: howdy yall Clay: you can trick it a little but not much Rivak: oh uh...? AuntiAlias: If you have a tip, please type ! and if you've got a question, type ? Rivak, if you got a question, go for it! Rivak: no just filling the queue... done ;) Journeyman: Has to go now, good night all, it has been fun, hope I could help AuntiAlias: A N N O U N C E M E N T: Next Thursday: Q & A with the Bryce engineers.... :D jpladue: ooooh gdmsynth: ? MplsOiBoi: Oooo... jpladue: groovy Clay: cya Janak Clay: ooo the main guys! AuntiAlias: yeah.. gonna do Q & A monthly.. one month on thursday chat, next month with Tuesday chat... AuntiAlias: so... it's Thursday's turn! :D Lise: Great idea! AuntiAlias: gdmsynth.. your question? gdmsynth: How do you move your cameras around a large scene? Clay: A AuntiAlias: uh, first, you read the log to the camera discussion that we had on Tuesday a coupla weeks ago some good tips there Clay, go for it... Clay: I use tracking on an invisible sphere usually AuntiAlias: Yes, that's one I just discovered recently... good for moving in tight spaces gdmsynth: Good idea! desdanova: ? Clay: it's just like in Infini-D AuntiAlias: the "den" scene that is in the BryceCamp HTML Image Map scene is all enclosed... that way for moving camera was great des, go for it desdanova: How do you deal with object placement when you merge multiple scenes together? AuntiAlias: A MplsOiBoi: URL Susan? Clay: A AuntiAlias: p.s. BryceCamp image map... http://www.metacreations.com/products/bryce4/community/project.cfm MplsOiBoi: Tank ya. AuntiAlias: I do merging this way make main scene.. place object there to begin with... AuntiAlias: then... when it comes time to work on it more, say, to hone it lots... I select everything else BUT... and then save the scene file with different name... then, when I go to merge, it's already in place! desdanova: cool! <G> AuntiAlias: Otherwise, I just have merged object(s) selected and work with them to get them to size/place Clay... go for it Clay: color code the groups and name them, and keep a sense of scale about your objects, then once in the scene I place where I want them. same thing LOL!! gdmsynth: ? AuntiAlias: For those of you who've just joined us, we're discussing working with large scene files... and sharing tips and asking questions... If you have a tip, please type ! and if you have a question, please type ? gdmsynth.. go for it.. gdmsynth: How do you go about merging? Save as an object? AuntiAlias: merging: you have a host file and a "guest" file that will be merged into the host file... Merge command is under File > Merge... So, when in the "host" scene file, select File > MErge... gdmsynth: A feature I haven't explored! Wow! AuntiAlias: find name of guest scene file and then Bryce imports it Hilofoz: ? gdmsynth: Sounds great for large scenes. AuntiAlias: what happens is that objects in new scene come in selected... AuntiAlias: and in plaec so... first I ususally go to Solo Mode (they are all selected, right?!) and delete anything that I don't want to have in file (like ground plane?) I also do that with things that cause long render time AuntiAlias: I did that with lights... just two objects.. had 'em in place all right, but they were gonna take up oodles of render time so, instead, I just created a "light merger" scene file and merged the lights back in when I was ready to render gdmsynth: Can't you just turn lights off? Hidden? AuntiAlias: so you can merge with small scene files hmmm.. this was in Bryce 2, back before objects could be hidden3 gdmsynth: Oh I'm a B4 newbie... AuntiAlias: haven't tried hiding lights... hmmm! interesting idea!!
