gdmsynth: Two compared finished renders Susan. Rodney: I do all thye svripting on the Mac... color tweaking and creating.. The PCs are just rendering the scenes Susan: hmmm.. use Gamma correction ON during the scene composition process, gdmsynth? gdmsynth: Yes, the same file was rendered on both. It seemed apparent that we couldn't mix n match without color matching. Rodney: You should not use the gamma corrction feature Yojimbo: Why's that again? gdmsynth: I guess we could color correct in After Effects but I don't want the extra bother. Susan: Gamma correction would be a good thing to have Ales and Brian talk about the next time we feature them in BryceTalk! Rodney: I've mixed frames from different PCs and Macs in the same scene gdmsynth: Hmmmm! technoid: agreed Susan gdmsynth: Mine are different! Rodney: gdm, send me a scene. I'm curious gdmsynth: Exact same scene. Rodney: The gamma correction feature actually changes the colors of the scene to "correct" for the percieved color biases of the different OS display routines gdmsynth: OK. I believe the Mac version is still at: ftp://vi2.com/pub/talkstudio Wolfie: gdm: you try just the ONE scene or different scenes to see about the color? Wolfie: WHEEEE! gdmsynth: I'll put up the PC version of the same later. Steve Lareau: Wheeee! Rodney: Which one? Susan: gdm, perhaps we should add you and your gamma sitaution to the queue? for your current project? Steve Lareau: Rodney- meet me in the lobby for a sec? gdmsynth: Same scene on both a PC and a Mac. Susan: Okay... Rodney: gdm... which file is the scene? Susan: to reiterate the queue: Rodney: Steve, soon as they're finished with me Susan: queue: mpls, Wolfie, gdmsynth... gdmsynth: Oh, sorry for taking over with questions.... Rodney, the Cloud scene. Rodney: Sorry, no file name says Cloud in it Susan: Anyone else who wants to add your self to queue, let me know! (Will transfer Moderating back to AuntiAlias now that the other connection is live again) gdmsynth: Oops maybe its gone... I'll check and put them both up. Rodney: 4 ZIP files Wolfie: Split personality tonight Susan/Aunti? Rodney: OK... any more comments or suggestions about the Infinity's Child stuff? AuntiAlias: (Connection problems; dual presence here is backup procedure!) AuntiAlias: cause if there are no more questions for Rodney, then we'll move on to MplsOiBoi Jammer: Who? Rodney: ...for the home folks... the Rodney person in the Render Room.... http://www.4u2c-us.com/wonderverse/movie/assets/rodatwurk.jpg MplsOiBoi: Ok... Hi, I'm Russell... http://impactdigital.8m.com/ship.html I've outlined the effect I'd like to achieve below the image. Rodney: So, no more ?s.. I'll go see what Steve's got in the lobby gdmsynth: ftp://vi2.com/pub/talkstudio/sorenson_movies/ AuntiAlias: If you've just joined us, we're talking about "My current project"... Rodney's had the floor.. and soon it'll be MplsOiBoi! Wolfie: Rodney+cat gdmsynth: The file is 3-0Cloud.zip MplsOiBoi: Whoops. AuntiAlias: no problem, Russell... so.... any suggestions for Russell? MplsOiBoi: I have experimented using terrains for the splash, but the water plane and the terrain just don't seem to sync up at all. I was concentrating on volumetric materials. Using numerous smaller spheres and building the splash around the craft. MplsOiBoi: Not quite what I was looking for however. Wolfie: Using terrains is about the only way you can do it Susan: arrgh... other connection died again : / ... I'm curious about the fact that terrains didn't work... Calyxa: an inverted terrain with an object space mapped alpha transparency might work. MplsOiBoi: Perhaps my modeling left a bit to be desired. Wolfie: that is probably the best way..one negative to carve out the water and a netural to fill it back in Susan: Also.. you can assign volumetric material to a terrain if you make the terrain solid.. MplsOiBoi: How do I make it solid? Wolfie: did I not mentuon that last night Susan: In Terrain Editor, to the lower left of terrain canvas... Wolfie: little check mark at the corner of the TE Susan: just under the grid, there's a pop up menu with an option for "Solid" MplsOiBoi: Ahhh... MplsOiBoi: Ok, Wolfe, my problem must have been I wasn't using solid terrains. Wolfie: Never tried doing booleans with non-solid terrains...don't think it will work Susan: any more suggestions? other questions? that idea of water dripping off of the object itself.. what about that? Yojimbo: Actually it does Calyxa: it will as long as your negative shape doesn't go out the 'bottom' of the terrain. Wolfie: more terrains/lattices Susan: oh... I just had an idea... a distance render of the scene will give you a grayscale of the shape of the object you can use that as the basis for some water drip tweaking probably need to set up a camera angle that's perflectly orthogonal to the object... or take the ship object and put it in another scene without any rotation so your camera view is perfectly "flat" then do a distance render MplsOiBoi: Gotcha. Wolfie: could...but since the object is solid, planting shapes onto it will hide imperfections inside the ship Susan: you'll hve a graycale shape (for terrain editor) that is based on shape... ctaylor: hello Susan: then you tweak the terrain graymap to create your drips and dribbles... JeffP: ....... Susan: jsut remember that when it comes to Grayscale to Height, easy does it.. a little gray goes a long way! : ) Wolfie: not to kid you, flowing and dripping water is one of the hardest things to get right in bryce MplsOiBoi: Going for broke then. Susan: Other questions? Suggestions? yep, Mpls.. you're definitelyin the Bryce Big Leagues with your project!!! :D :D Good luck! MplsOiBoi: Thanks, guys. Susan: BBL = big challenge to undertake!
