BryceTalk 3D Model Import/Export, June 24, 1999
part 5

AuntiAlias: okay; here are the steps

you got your terrain

in a scene file

change the scene file's resolution to 1:1 1024 x 1024 (or bigger, hey!)

and then look at it from top view

you'll have to do some tweaking to get your view from top to exactly match the edges of the terrain

tuckersaur: she be reading my mind!

AuntiAlias: Tuck, what was that zoom tip? go ahead and type it up!

oh!

DigiVI: but i need grayscale not a image.....

AuntiAlias: digi, hang on I'm not finished!

"D

:D

So...

once you get it perfectly aligned....

then, under render menu, select

tuckersaur: hold down space/ctl/alt and a little zoomer will show up- you can zoom in real time

3d~?~elf: (use greyscale re set?)

AuntiAlias: Altitude render

DigiVI: the light would half to be exacltly from the top to prevent shadows and ...... is there a better way

AuntiAlias: altitude render IS a grayscale mode

yes, Digi, there is a better way

3d~?~elf: k

DigiVI: k odne

done

AuntiAlias: I just typed it! :D

oh

by the way

tuckersaur: my zoom recipe is above AA

AuntiAlias: I've done that kind of thing before in a slightly different way to get grayscale texture information to use as flat pict

one time I wanted to make some water caustic pattersn

made them in the DTE

but they just weren't quite right enough

wanted to further tweak them

in Photoshop

so

I applied the Material to Ground plane

used the alfa to drive ambience, I believe

DigiVI: ?

AuntiAlias: and shut off all other lighting properties

rendered from top, a regular render

then took that image render and tweaked in Photoshop

then went back and applied that as pict to the light I was using to project the water caustic patter

pattern

Okay, so it was slightly off topic, but I hope you folks don't mind! ; )

gdmsynth: Not at all!

AuntiAlias: Digi... your question?

3d~?~elf: i didn't

tuckersaur: Also turn off link sun to view for the top render

DigiVI: so now that i can render out the ground plain from the top, can i use obj top and map that 1:1?

AuntiAlias: render ground plane?

the ground plane is infinite...

DigiVI: no the terrain

AuntiAlias: maybe I don't completely understand the gist of your question, Digi

tuckersaur: it sounds like a perfect map with no distortion Digi

DigiVI: ok if i render out a top view of my mountain

tuckersaur: shoot it from above so it fits exactly and map it parametric - not object tio

i mean top

DigiVI: can i apply that back onto the mountain as a texture, 1:1

gdmsynth: Interesting. Could we use this as a template to distort PICTS?

DigiVI: just what i was getting to gdm

AuntiAlias: I was sorta thinking the same thing, gdm....tho exactly how I don't know....

lots and lots of experimentation there

but

I WANT TO KNOW HOW IT COMES OUT! :D :D :D :D

tuckersaur: Do that with a cool piece of brycean glass gdm - best way to distort

to distort images - that is

Rivak: .

DigiVI: done

rgross: hey tuck ltns

gdmsynth: Hmmm I was thinking of putting a PICT onto a mountain terrain.

tuckersaur: hey RGB - yeah!

AuntiAlias: --------------

Announcement!

however you want to dicuss it... but it's all about

What I'm currently working on in Bryce

Rodney: gdm, http://www.4u2c-us.com/gallery1/sandmapped.jpg

Clay: COOL!

Yojimbo: Tuesday or Thursday?

Rodney: I just made a map and applied it to a Ken fractal terrain.

Want the scen?

AuntiAlias: Thursday

Yojimbo: k

Rosy: same time? ;-)

Yojimbo: sure Rod

AuntiAlias: yep

Rivak: i want a tut on skies susan :)

AuntiAlias: Next Tuesday: Camera placement!

technoid: I noticed that too

Clay: same here Rod

Yojimbo: lol

Rosy: LOL

Rosy: :-)

3d~?~elf: thanks to all!

AuntiAlias: yes, yo

tuckersaur: thanks indeed

Yojimbo: k

Wolfie: how about something in the deep motions editor

Yojimbo: c'yall

AuntiAlias: AML?

technoid: Camera "repair", as when you have distorted the view angle outta sync

Wolfie: rog

DigiVI: AA how about "What is bryce" he he he

gdmsynth: Rodney, I' have some interesting ideas on animation I've devised from your suggestions.

JeffP: Gray scale modeling walkthrough...

Rodney: I just uploaded it again

technoid: er, unstraightened

rgross: cya have fun

gdmsynth: K... I'll try.

tuckersaur: bye all!

Rosy: Uh Auntie...where do we see the schedules? :-)

technoid: cya tuck

Rodney: I'm uploading the scene to ftp

Rosy: bye all

AuntiAlias: by first part of week, there'll be more.. yes, gotta do July! :D

Sky Pilot: dumb?

How do you type links into this thing?

3d~?~elf: i'm not gettin it either

AuntiAlias: Sky, just type

Wolfie: how about something on volume mats

Sky Pilot: OK

DigiVI: !!!!!!!

AuntiAlias: if it's a URL (or even if it's not)... you'll get auto link

DigiVI: I got a comment... call on me AA

!!!!!

Sky Pilot: Thought as much

AuntiAlias: digi, go for it

DigiVI: uhhh... i forgot

technoid: such as: www.hairdo.com/~nonexistent

AuntiAlias: tho by this time, it's broken down into normal anarchy! :D

Rivak: uh yes

Wolfie: www.duh.com

Rivak: the chaos!!!

johnsell: how about comprehensive analysis of the OBJ file format with a history?

Rivak: me@me.me

technoid: lol

Wolfie: it's a real link!

Rivak: which?

Wolfie: www.duh.com

DigiVI: AA how about a topic about self control

AuntiAlias: how do you mean, Digi?

DigiVI: everyone could learn from this

just kidding

Sky Pilot: or not!

Rivak: like how to not all ask questions at once

AuntiAlias: self control and bryce?

or.. self control and BRyce Talk

3d~?~elf: that was in B1

Sky Pilot: self control & BT

DigiVI: I really would like to know how do some more complex modeling with bryce!

Rivak: how not to multi replicate some 1,000 times

AuntiAlias: today's topic is BryceTalk and self control. If you haev a comment to make, DON'T! :D

gdmsynth: Grrrrrrrrrrr

technoid: hehe

AuntiAlias: If you have a question to ask, don't!

Rivak: ?

doh!

3d~?~elf: digi, have a link to some tuts'...know dcb?

Wolfie: I see questions about underwater scenes a lot in the lobby...might make a good topic some night

Rodney: As soon as the scene uploads I'll see why the jpg's still not working

gdmsynth: Sorry I didn't see the movie. I ain't seen StarWars yet... (gd slinks out with head lowered...)

AuntiAlias: aaah, good idea

technoid: Yeah, Wolfie!

Sky Pilot: Got some bad caffiene reactions here!
