AuntiAlias: Greets everyone!!! Welcome to 3D import-export night!

Rivak: yay

PJF88: morning!

AuntiAlias: We don't have a single special guest speaker (typist?)... so here's what we'll do...

First, let's take a survey... who works with what

PJF88: resort to anarchy

jimbeaux: 3d by committee?

AuntiAlias: then we'll talk about importing models

Morpheus: clay did you see my pic

Rivak: my mom says I'm special...

;)

AuntiAlias: first...

MetaJohn: OK SUSAN

AuntiAlias: then we'll talk about exporting models

so.....

Danny: Truespace 4.2 .....Lightwave 5.6

magister: bryce 2 years

AuntiAlias: Who here works with 3D models in apps besides Bryce? If you do, say which other apps you use, e.g.,

Rosy: Bryce and TS 4.2

Morpheus: oops we started just Bryce aunti

ctaylor: started you?

Danny: and about 5 or 6 others I cant recall right now

Morpheus: oh right and poser on occasion

ctaylor: yet?

AuntiAlias: yes, we're underway.. taking a survey:

Who here works with 3D models in apps besides Bryce? If you do, say which other apps you use, e.g.,

<---Bryce, InfiniD, Max, Play-doh

Morpheus: magister just a little to much info

PJF88: <---Poser3

Rivak: heh

DigiVI: strata studio pro, 3ds max

ccasady: Poser, Canoma

ctaylor: Poser, Max (briefly)

Rosy: TS 4.2, Poser 3

ccasady: Amorphium

Rivak: not enough colors....

Morpheus: BEOWULF!!!!!!!!!!!!

AuntiAlias: we're taking a survey.. who uses what other apps... so those of you who came in, chime in!

Morpheus: just keeping that pattern going

Rosy: Visual Reality 2.0!

AuntiAlias: So.... we got lots of experts in lots of topics.....

Danny: Ts 4.2 Light wave 5.6 3DS Max, Poser, Bryce,Spatch, Terragen, Infini-D4.5 RDS 5.5

zman52: Poser,RD5,Amorphium

Yojimbo: Strata, Bryce, infi-d sometimes, pixels3d

magister: can i ask what is the best modeler here

to use

lannie: Poser and a little raydream

Danny: There isnt opne Mag

one

Rivak: heh

AuntiAlias: Okay... how about we talk about importing models into Bryce....

Clay: check!

Danny: You pick a modeller based on your needs

AuntiAlias: If you have a tip, a suggestion, or a technique, please type !

DigiVI: <magister> I really like Strata Studio Pro. Its really powerful!

ctaylor: where should we start?

AuntiAlias: Tip/suggestion/technique for importing models into Bryce.. type !

Danny: !

AuntiAlias: Danny, go for it

Clay: Lonzo were discussing importing models into Bryce......

Danny: When you want to import a specific model

kabir: I need some advice on getting modles from RDS 5.x into Bryce in a coherent way...

Danny: Try using 3DS rather than anothr

slow typing tonight

PJF88: Why?

AuntiAlias: Psst! a bit of protocol advice:

when we do the anyone has idea, type "!"

then that person has the floor!

If you gotta question, type ?

But... right now we're lookgin for tips

lannie: I would like to know if you can export a obp out of Bryce as a 3ds or obj, or dxf.

AuntiAlias: lanni

Danny: While B4 can handle .cob and others ,it seems to handle that data better than other types

AuntiAlias: like this:

?

Rivak: the chaos begins...

AuntiAlias: While Danny is typing, any of you others who have tips or techniques, go ahead and type !

lannie: ok

AuntiAlias: I"ll get a queue going!

Clay: !

AuntiAlias: So, Danny, yo'ure saying that 3DS comes into Bryce better than others do?

PJF88: ?

DigiVI: !

Danny: At this time B4 cant handle .cob very well

AuntiAlias: (oh, and when you're done with your tip, please type "done" at the end so the rest of us know! thanks!)

Queue: Clay, PJF88, DigiVI

Danny: It'll also scramble some others as wewll

Danny: done

AuntiAlias: (second tip re: typing your tip.. if you are in the queue, go ahead and start typing your tip.. then you just hit return when I call on you!)

Clay-- go for it!

Clay: I have noticed exporting models out of ID4.1 as 3dmf for some reason, seems smoother than dxf when bringing them into Bryce, any others find that? They seem to smooth out better than dxf (done.)

Danny: !

kabir: ?

AuntiAlias: okay, anyone else have anythign to say about ID 3dmf, type !3dmf

Wolfie: !

AuntiAlias: Danny, wolfie, if either of your commetns is in response to Clay, just go for it! :D

Danny: OK

lannie: I can't seem to import a 3dmf, why?

Wolfie: no..about importing DEMs

Danny: Clay ....That has to with the way you make a curve in AutoCad

DigiVI: !3dmf

AuntiAlias: Digi, go for it

DigiVI: I tried to import a 3dmf file and bryce could not handle it

Danny: Sometimes to keep the file size down ..The modeller willl only assign 20 or so sections for the curve

DigiVI: the file was about 20mb

Clay: I've never had that prob, but they seem to work better

"cleaner" if you will

Sky Pilot: Digi, "Out of Memory"?

DigiVI: So over all, dxf worked best for me. Its slower to import then 3ds and for that mater 3dmf but it can handle large files

AuntiAlias: Greets, those of you recently arrived. We're talking about tips/techniques, and the subect of the moment is 3DMF import... Clay and DigiVI have the floor

DigiVI: ya

Sky Pilot: Thought so

Wolfie: !DEM-Bug

DigiVI: done

Sky Pilot: Auntie, whats the limit on import size?

Clay: ok I'm done;_)

AuntiAlias: k.. who is next? PJF88, go for it!

DigiVI: I dont think there is a limit with dxf

PJF88: Re Danny's point: Surely it depends on the model, you don't want 3ds if you need texture maps (as with Poser figures). You want OBJ for that.

DigiVI: ?why

Wolfie: I have imported a >20mb file in the past with no probs...takes a while but it worked

Danny: Not really Peter
