ccasady: Okay, now you have two terrains, papa and son Morpheus: gotta go Rosy: lol ccasady: Boru??? KathG: lol boru: Which way's north? Morpheus: is this going to be logged? PJF88: pole star AuntiAlias: yes, MOrpheus! as they ALL are! Morpheus: okay thanks ccasady: north is always 'up' MetaKlaus: lol AuntiAlias: Also, there was a question back there from Androo... when you're ready to take another question, Chris, let 'im know! : ) ccasady: west if Left, you all know that. boru: up cursor arrow or page up? Sky Pilot: From Top view ccasady: yes, sorry, Androo? Androo...: I'm ok ta :) ccasady: k so Papa and son.... Now enter the Tarrain Editor for this new Terrain. You'll see it's the same terrain, also at 256 or 512 or whatever you made it. Go to the pop up triagle where the names & random switches are (Just right of "Fractal" ) and scroll down to the VERY bottom. You'll see; "Tile North, Tile South, Tile West, Tile East". Chose the one to match the position of this duplicate in relation to it's cloned "parent". if you moved the terrain north (up) then choose Tile North BTW.... I go to the top view (hit #2 on keyboard) to move these terrains e,w,n, or s Rosy: ah more clear that way ccasady: Yup, Oaky, your in the TE of terrain #2.... Now a single click on the "Fractal" generator button with generate a tiled mate that will perfectly fit north of the first terrain. You can continue this process forever going in any direction, even changing direction, as long as you are generating terrain adjacent to the previous one. RabbleRouser: basically the fractal is already tiled. By copying it and saying to tile north, etc, you are picking up the character of the "infinite" fractal, right? ccasady: right. mmurphy: ahhhhhhhhh AuntiAlias: whee!! RabbleRouser: score! Rosy: wow ccasady: it somehow knows this infinite pattern and your just taking tiles of it Have fun, and don't get lost. AuntiAlias: cool!!! mmurphy: now that is cool KathG: thats great AuntiAlias: if you're done discussing tiling, Chris, there's a question that was asked earlier... ccasady: as for the real positioning of these Terrain in the Bryce universe? Youl have to position them by hand. okay: Questions??? AuntiAlias: this was from geosteve, earlier: geosteve: Has anyone had difficulty with terrains changing properties when you start to do anything regarding animation in Bryce 4 on Windows. Anyone who wants to take a stab, please type ! MetaKlaus: accidently you may animate them... ccasady: Gosh, I have very little exoerience with that. RabbleRouser: ? MetaKlaus: but actually I haven't heard of real problems... Rabble? PJF88: Is this another keyframes problem? AuntiAlias: ! It may be that indavertantly you assigned a keyframe, and that's why it changes, geosteve RabbleRouser: back to tiling terrains: how you change the elevation effects of one of the fractal terrains and still make it tile? MetaKlaus: Change it of all the tiles RabbleRouser: just record your processes? ccasady: Rabble: you can't. Sky Pilot: Make sure terrain not selected, if not animating it. AuntiAlias: in resposne to Rabble's situaiton: Now a "my terrain changes macro recorder" would be nice here.... RabbleRouser: so tiling only works with one of the fractal presets then, right? MetaKlaus: yes AuntiAlias: ! ccasady: yes AuntiAlias: I've done a bit of changes to terrains, say, adding a bit of erosion and a bit of mounds.... ccasady: tiling workd with al terain types except "Bryce Calssic" gdmsynth: ? geosteve: All good suggestions, but I've tried those things, but maybe if I go back to even earlier version of the files. Is anyone here animating with Windows 98? AuntiAlias: I wasn't looking at the several tile terrains from above, so any imperfections weren't really visible -- p.o.v. was looking at mountain ridges... PJF88: Presumably you can alter the tiled terrains away from the edges, and they'll still fit. Rosy: seamless tiles! awesome RabbleRouser: right... but just no"global" changes unless you spend some time tweakin Sky Pilot: ? keef: ! JeffP: seams in the tiles are difficult to eliminate... AuntiAlias: yes, RR.... we got a follow up from geosteve and questions from gdmsynth and sky pilot, and keeg er keef ccasady: Susan, whos next? AuntiAlias: Let me see if I can address geosteve a bi tmore KathG: Time for me to go......had a great time....... Thank you everyone, learned alot :) AuntiAlias: I presume that what you want to do is get your terrian back to a certain (unchanging) state, yes? ccasady: you're welcome! Rosy: bye Kath AuntiAlias: If that's so.. then the idea is to remove the keyframes for the terrain as it moves. geosteve: I'm animating the camera but not any terrains. AuntiAlias: and still the terrains move? geosteve: No, they change material properties. AuntiAlias: it may be that you inadvertantly made a chagne to the terrain after you made a move with the camera not terrain properties? geosteve: No, in material. From granite to dark rocks with snow. AuntiAlias: advice is same for either:go to Adv Motion lab and double-click the terrain or object till you find terrain.. and material (in sub hierarchy) geosteve: OK AuntiAlias: hold down the shift key on that material. You get a pop up menu one option is to remove keyframes Jsut for grins, beforehand, go to Mat Lab and click Copy material so, in case you removed wrong material, you can put it back in. back to our other terrain questions! geosteve: Good thinking! AuntiAlias: gdmsynth! ask away! gdmsynth: Is there any way to speed up (or automate) the "erode" tool in a 512/1024 terain? Sometimes I have to hold the erode button down for a long time in 512 terrains to get results. Do I have to hold it down for 30sec+? ccasady: before too many people leave... I have an URL http://www.tilenut.com/bryce/rocks/ PJF88: who's leaving?! ccasady: Kathy left PJF88: k AuntiAlias: great rocks, Chris!! :D gdmsynth: Silence...I guess I have to be patient and hold it eh? AuntiAlias: yeah, think so, gdmsynth! gdmsynth: K...thanks. ccasady: I'm thinking... RabbleRouser: how eroded are you trying to make them GD? ccasady: Walter: you missed this: (these are new fractal types) gdmsynth: I like 'em cooked a lot. I don't have patience though. ccasady: http://www.tilenut.com/bryce/rocks/ dwalter: cheers RabbleRouser: i never want more speed in the erode, but i guess youd just have to hold and wait mmurphy: "hold" or "drag"? AuntiAlias: are we done with gdm's question? gdmsynth: Chris rocks! AuntiAlias: no, I guess not! ; ) ccasady: gdmsynth, I think you just have to wait Calyxa: dragging doesn't take effect until the erode has been calculated for the whole terrain, and at higher resolutions that does take a while. PJF88: Walter = Daryl gdmsynth: yeah. unless there are any ideas. Thanks. ccasady: One other idea is: mmurphy: ahhhh boru: Gdm, I think it goes faster if you click repeatedly, rather than click & hold or it's my imagination Ideaman: Am I late? RabbleRouser: (nice heiroglyphs in the rocks, tile!) gdmsynth: But tell me, it is working in the 1024 mode right? ccasady: errode at 128, then uprez to 256, errode, up to 512, errode more, then up to 1024 errode lkike crazy MetaKlaus: gdmsynth: yes
