MetaKlaus: Scale what's inside the terrain... switch on the zoom feature... now drag a frame and click to (lemme check...) Fit Now your former terrain is scaled down to the frame you just have done... i_claudius: I'm lost. ccasady: so far so good MetaKlaus: If you do this several times, and lower/invert the terrain inbetween driven: how do you move the little box MetaKlaus: Use the mouse! Calyxa: grab it by the upper left corner. AuntiAlias: if you drag from the sides of the box, you move the box, if you drag at the corners, you change its size driven: ok thanx ...... duh fellin dum Calyxa: ah, move around 'til you get a hand cursor, then MetaKlaus: If you do this several times, you can build all kind of geometric forms not quite the variety of BSmooth forms though... RabbleRouser: youre talking *in* the terrain editor? MetaKlaus: but enough for a door frame yes! keef: ? ccasady: wow, all with the square box from the "crop" tool. AuntiAlias: Klaus, are you ready to take some questions? When you are, say the word and I'll start calling on people! boru: ? MetaKlaus: yep! AuntiAlias: driven, you're on! MetaKlaus: keef? boru? driven? keef: Is this the technique you used for das Tor jpg - Klaus ? AuntiAlias: Steve 4001, goerge. keef, boru MetaKlaus: no... this was made with BSmooth george: (shift me down....the phone just rang) driven: ok no i think i got most of it keef: thanks Klaus AuntiAlias: Steve 4001: go ahead and ask! Steve4001: thanks, but i got it now AuntiAlias: keef? go ahead! keef: just did driven: i think i got it AuntiAlias: boru!! you're on! RabbleRouser: ? boru: Why drag frames, Klaus? I thought that was for animation only. MetaKlaus: btw, I just finished another render: http://www.metacreations.de/temp/knollen.jpg jonjon: ? MetaKlaus: No, dragging frames inside the canvas! boru: Ooooh! ccasady: (I will have some new URLs later too) MetaKlaus: You can use this feature to get a better detail view of you terrain btw.... jonjon? driven: pretty AuntiAlias: Clarificaton re: "frame" In *this* case it's referreing to the square marquee that appears inside the Terrain Editor canvas when you've got the Zoom Area button activated george: (off phone aunti...if my place is still there i'd like to keep it) Morpheus: oh sweet using the zoom thing you can apply anything to just the zoomed section RabbleRouser: gotcha.. cancel my "?" MetaKlaus: Yes! Rabble? jonjon: can you duplicate wot's in the zoom box and bring it into the TE alongside the original? RabbleRouser: the last ? answered mine.. thanks AuntiAlias: george had a question, Klaus. Go for it, george! george: Klaus, 2 questions....is Bsmooth currently the only application aside from Bryce that can make these images? and, if so, is there anyway to use photoshop to create images that will use the same color scheme Luie: ? george: (referrring to the 16 bit grayscale) MetaKlaus: Actually, you can use Word or Excel to create 16 bit input! george: text? AuntiAlias: DO TELL! MetaKlaus: Yes! Calyxa: "it's just bits" right? george: aha.... such as MetaKlaus: No, it's easier, it's just TEXT! george: Green Red Blue 11111111 11111111 11111111
something like this? MetaKlaus: The PGM format that's supported on B4 is a simple text format! george: where the combination of these is white? pgm? driven: um thanxs 4 the help all but i gotta go cya MetaKlaus: Just do it like I have done it in the bit age ;-) RabbleRouser: so how would u import it? MetaKlaus: Create a simple terrain (start SMALL) george: okay MetaKlaus: export it as PGM MetaKlaus: Now take your text editor and ope it... george: righto aha.... MetaKlaus: IT's absolutely BASIC! RabbleRouser: interesting.. but i think i'll just paint ;-) MetaKlaus: So, you could write a word makro (on an Excel, Basic whatsoever, every tool that is able to spit out TEXT), to create 16-bit input for Bryce 4! Calyxa: brought to you by the letters R&D george: interesting.... MetaKlaus: If you find any paint program in 16 bit lemme know.. RabbleRouser: well, i meant the terrain editor george: I've been workingon getting a spectrum that defines the height....but the combination of the colors MetaKlaus: LivePicture used 12 bit internally, but hasn't had any interface... george: usually throws it off.... i.e. blue as lower than red and magenta as higher, but combining blue to red to magenta places magenta between blue and red, thereby messing up the height field boru: ? MetaKlaus: Another interesting tool for the photoshop users among us is the Filter Factory filter which is one of the goodies om the photoshop CD george: I've heard about that MetaKlaus: Just as a tip for the freaks among us, I won't get into detail! AuntiAlias: To say nothing of using KPT in the Filter area in the Terrain Editor! Klaus, you want to give us a basic rundown for using KPT/Photoshop plug in filters in the Terrain Editor? MetaKlaus: Chris, would you like to talk a liilte bit over your nice examples? Rosy: please ccasady: The other thing I'm preparred to talk about are the new Fractal terrain Models. george: might there be an opportunity for us at somepoint to go into detail in a forum format on this? MetaKlaus: Oh yes, They are cooool ccasady: Which exmples Klause? DaleP: ? regarding Terrain tiling? AuntiAlias: hang on a sec, Chris... jonjon: That would be yseful MetaKlaus: let's start with terrain fractals and tiling! ccasady: yes, I can explain tiling the new fracta terrains too
