AuntiAlias: use shift click on the name Basic Altitude to get picture preview in LIbrary pick the one that's got the gradient that's white at the top and that's deep blue at the bottom also....when I say "brownstone" what I mean is that I'll say the name "brownstone" but what I mean is whatever you named your brown rocky texture ccasady: "Aunti's Seagull frosting" AuntiAlias: (oops, sorry about the repitition on say/means there) Heather: I don't get any color name - only Basic Altitude - and all the scene is blue AuntiAlias: okay, you foudn the right Basic Altitude. eilif: but in channel A AuntiAlias: but where it's assigned is slightly off Do you have two texture sources showing? A and B? Yojimbo: § 3d~?~elf: (tm) AuntiAlias: that question was for heather, folks! : ) Luie: Pisitivly Yojimbo: doh AuntiAlias: Heather? you there? Heather: well, I have a blue shaded up to white and a black shaded up to grey and third is all grey, and it says Basic Altitude over it AuntiAlias: yes. that is the right Basic Altitude texture. That is the texture source Heather: whew:))) AuntiAlias: do you have another texture source showing on the right side of the materials lab? brownstone or rocky brown or whatever you call it? Luie: in channel A Heather: oh, that is right; the picture at left is dark blue and med blue sky I don't want to hold everyone up, especially as you don't feel well, maybe I can review notes tomorrow and straighten me out AuntiAlias: Heather, do you have two texture sources showing? one for A and one for B? please follow my questions carefully, I can straighten you out in a pinch, i think.... : ) this is what you should have: Luie: the rocky one on top and basic altitude right below it?! (the suspense is killing me) AuntiAlias: two texture sources: Heather: I don't see anything called texture source AuntiAlias: I guess Bryce calls them Texture A and Texture B Luie: THE materials lab has 4 spaces labeled A, B, C, D, those are the texture sources Heather: In Basic Altitude boxes I have three swatches, blue up to light blue, black up to white and grey; below are worldspace wavy blue black and white wavy and grey AuntiAlias: on the right hand side, where you see the blue and black gradient Heather: yes AuntiAlias: okay, the basic altitude boxes is altogether called Texture A or B or C or D -- depending on where it is located. I hope it's located at B eilif: could someone make a quick screen dump for heather? AuntiAlias: but that whole box is the Texture Source Heather: I don't see anything that says texture at all Steve Lareau: Aunti- how can I make my pictures kewl? LOL! Cant believe you're still going... and going..... eilif: no word, h gdmsynth: It isn't labeled I believe Heather ccasady: If you wave your mouse over it, It will say TEXTURE AuntiAlias: I called them Texture Sources in my book Real World Bryce 2 Luie: the rocky one on top and basic altitude right below it? four channels on the right side of the material lab, two are occupied by your first stone and then the next one is Basic Altitude the third one is a grey C and the fourth on is a grey D AuntiAlias: so you won't find that name exactly on the Bryce interface Bryce calls them Texture A Texture B and Texture C and Texture D Heather: waving my mouse brings up texture name and texture library but doesn't say A or B or C but there are 3 boxes Luie: oh well whatever nevermind , 3d~?~elf: if mouse is over dark grey vertical bar on texture source it says "a, b,c, or d" AuntiAlias: okay... so there is only one set of three boxes showing? ccasady: those theee boxes are ONE letter, A or B, or... Heather: two sets of 3 boxes, second called Wavey AuntiAlias: okay, now we're getting somewhere. Heather: but the troops are growing restless; maybe I can pick this up from notes ccasady: make the second one Basic Altitude AuntiAlias: is Wavey what you're calling your texture from earlier top one is Texure Source A.... eilif: http://hjem.get2net.dk/eilif/screen.jpg ccasady: read the Log Heather AuntiAlias: make that be the same as the texture you created earlier Luie: Thank you, sorry Heather: now I have 2 sets of matching boxes, blue shade, black shade, grey AuntiAlias: make the top one be the one from earlier.. the chocolate chip cookie dough eilif: look at link, heather Luie: eilif, you rock AuntiAlias: I love how helpful everyone is being! :D Betty: just keep at it Heather. You'll get it. :) Heather: ok, I went there and see what it's supposed to be, but how do I get my brownstone in the top box? AuntiAlias: here's the advantage to saving your textures as you work! Heather: Everything worked fine this whole trip til now I did save my brownstone and named it AuntiAlias: because if something weird happens and you choose the wrong texture inadvertantly, you won't have lost your work. eilif: just choose both again, but reverse AuntiAlias: shift click on the name of the texture for the top one.... and get the texture library find your texture and then click OK. It should show in the top area. Heather: ok, I'm back to my brown texture in the first box of textures AuntiAlias: yay! : ) Note for clarification: the three boxes together, the name, and all that stuff are together the texture source. There are four of them, total. A, B C and D........ Betty: :) AuntiAlias: so... texture source A (the top box) has the rocky texgure Heather: yes AuntiAlias: and the second one, has the blue Basic Altitude..... and your preview is a dull brown, right? Heather: all the other boxes here are black Clay: you still doin alright Susan? Heather: yes, my preview is brown AuntiAlias: yes, Clay, thanks! : ) Clay: :-) AuntiAlias: got a second wind, I guess : ) so! Yojimbo: Yeah we don't want you burning out the first night:) AuntiAlias: I think that we're now all together! the idea is.... PJF88: Thanks Susan, but it's 5:35am here, and I'm dead. Time for work, Jeff. Nite! AuntiAlias: oops, one last check Yojimbo: we still need you to explain the rest of the great features next week Jeffric: bye Peter ! Yojimbo: Night PJ Betty: nite Peter Clay: cya Betty: er.. morning? Heather: Bye - and I'm sorry AuntiAlias: For Diffusion, B should be where the marker is Note: diffusion NOT Diffuse Color Diffusion is in the middle of the list of material properties AuntiAlias: k Luie: thats where we leave off? AuntiAlias: nope... not yet! : ) I'm taking a breath! 3d~?~elf: yea! Luie: (my boss is gonna kill me!) He's paying for this :) Clay: breath in breath out eilif: gotta nother half hour before shower and work! Sun's up desdanova: wax on.... wax off AuntiAlias: wehre the value for B is white, you have full diffusion (maximum) where it's black, you have none so.... and, in the case of source B, Basic Altitude, the altitude is what's driving what's going on so.... the matter at hand is this: is there some way, in the Materials Lab, that we can somehow "push" the white area down to make more "white" in our diffusion map? we can do that! with a set of tools called Edit Texture on the upper left corner of the Texture Source for Basic Altitude, there is a button that is labelled "editor" click that tools show up. You can move them around check for this important thing: on the right are the letters A, B, C D you want to make sure that you are affecting B or the texturte source where basic altitude is 3d~?~elf: b is light orange AuntiAlias: yep! :D (others are gray) Luie: mine is blue eilif: the B button in Edit Text pop up AuntiAlias: the letter B on the Edit Texture area is what 3D elf is referring to, Luie... there are three tools corresponding to what you see in Edit Palette, for resize, rotate and reposition Luie: I pushed it and it turned blue all others are grey Yojimbo: Then You should be fine Luie: ko AuntiAlias: funkadelic, but we'll take it! : )
