BryceTalk Novice Q & A, June 3, 1999
Part 3

MetaJohn: Queue is elf then Steve

MetaJohn: OK elf

3d~?~elf: ahole: Realtime Linking is for slower machines

where/when does this need to be selected.deselected

gdmsynth: ?

ahole: If you have more complex scene or slow machine turn it off.

Undo...Quick!: Good question, Elf. I think my PII 400 is slow.

MetaJohn: OK?

3d~?~elf: oh okau, i get it now

MetaJohn: Steve?

Steve Lareau: Is there a way (now, or in a future version) to have the nano preview match the actual full scene of the render? If I'm rendering a huge image, the nano only shows a portion- hard to tell what will actually show up in the final image.

Hard to explain....

gdmsynth: Such as using a 16:9 size frame?

Steve Lareau: I guess to somehow have the nano preview scale down or up in other words

MetaJohn: That is not possible right now Steve

Undo...Quick!: I don't get the question. My Nano always shows everything that's going to be rendered.

Clay: a

oops

ahole: If the image has the same aspect ration as the nano you should see the whole thing. The aspect ratio difference however causes trouble.

Undo...Quick!: Oh, I get it now.

Yojimbo: nod

Undo...Quick!: Sorry.

Steve Lareau: I'm tring to render at 600 dpi for a book project, and all I see is a very small portion.

Maybe for B5? ;D

ahole: We hope to make some improvements on the nano Steve. So hopefully it will do what you want

:)

Steve Lareau: That'd be slick.... done. For now anyway. Haha!

MetaJohn: we can not commit to the future, lets talk about now! ;-)

H20rat: even if you could see the scene in the nano window could u tell what you lookng at? It's very small... now if you could somehow scale the window size <G>

MetaJohn: gdnsynth

gdmsynth: When I move a keyframe in the AML sequencer the dashed line ("--------") in the AML Time Mapping Curve Editor which designates where the keyframe occurs in time does not also change.

Is there a way to get the AML Time Mapping Curve Editor to update to correspond with the keyframe times in the sequencer?

Steve Lareau: ?

MetaJohn: Ahole youre the expert

ahole: Hold down. I am looking into it....

ahole: This would be the case only if the real time linking is off

Otherwise it should not happen

MetaJohn: OK?

ahole: (pressuming i got the description of the problem right)

gdmsynth: Ah ha. That's what I didn't understand before (and its not in the manual I think either).

MetaJohn: OK Steve

Steve Lareau: On slow (P166) machines- it's a drag to try to hit the hidden rayspray when you can't see it, and it's worse when ya hit the wrong thing. Possible to set the hidden things to be visible at all times? B5 idea? It wouldn't be that horrible to always see!

gdmsynth: Thanks Ales. I'll give it a try. It would be a BIG help.

ahole: And the line should jump into the righ spot when you let up.

from the mouse button that is.....

Undo...Quick!: I agree with Steve.

Steve Lareau: Hidden things are a good idea (I guess) but on a slow machine, it's a nightmare.

ahole: Steve use shift esc

3d~?~elf: !

Undo...Quick!: Even on a slow PII-400.

:)

gdmsynth: Great! Thanks for the cue (or rather the A)

Steve Lareau: Was working on a 60 meg scene with 64 megs on the system- learning all about patience...

MetaJohn: OK it is now under consideration for B5 to keep them on by choice

Steve Lareau: Really? Lemme try- thanks!

3d~?~elf: tear off that pallet and move it to the other side?

Steve Lareau: That would really be nice. You guys are invited over for a BBW and pool party if that makes it! LOL!

Baument: baument is off to model complex polygonal shapes with metastream previews and have a big ole bowl of captain crunch

Undo...Quick!: LOL

Steve Lareau: BBW= BBQ

Baument: nite all

MetaJohn: Night

ahole: About the rayspray..... Did you know that you can change the size and the shape of the brush?

ccasady: shape?

3d~?~elf: telll!!!

MetaJohn: Tell us more

Undo...Quick!: Yes, I knew it was possible. How?

Ringo: How?

ahole: Yeah - once in the rayspray mode use the number keys

1-5 do circle and change size and 6-9 do squere

Ruddigger: cool

MetaJohn: Any more questions? We are a little over time....

gdmsynth: ?

3d~?~elf: too cool,

MetaJohn: gdm?

gdmsynth: I know you can add points to a path by option-clicking the path ( which is useful if you want to make changes to a path) however.... is there a way to remove points on a path?

Undo...Quick!: Awsome! You guys are already invited down to Florida for BBQ! You don't have to put out V5 yet, I'll feed ya'll tonight!

gdmsynth: They don't show up as path keyframes in the AML or anything like that so they can't be deleted there either.

ccasady: cool

gdmsynth: I want to delete them because sometimes when points on a path get dragged around they mess up the timing of an otherwise good path. So how can they be deleted?

ahole: :)

3d~?~elf: ?

gdmsynth: ???

Undo...Quick!: MetaJohn, don't forget my ?

Ruddigger: go to the keyframe and click the key - button

ahole: Undo bwagner (one of our lead engineers is down there)

Ruddigger: I think.....

gdmsynth: No that doesn't work.

ahole: So be carefull what you wish for :)

MetaJohn: OK Quick

After gdm

Yojimbo: lol

Undo...Quick!: ok

ahole: GD now right now you can not delete them :(

gdmsynth: So once I create a path I'm "committed"?

MetaJohn: yup

Quick

gdmsynth: IC

Yojimbo: to the number of points yes

gdmsynth: OK I'll keep a copy of the last version without the path always.

Undo...Quick!: Okay.... it's a dumb question, really. Is there anybody at MCRE who's keeping the "wish list" for Version 5?

gdmsynth: Thanks again.

MetaJohn: Yes several of us are

H20rat: ok add in BONES

<G>

Steve Lareau: LOL!

MetaJohn: You have bones on 3ds

Undo...Quick!: Like an e-mail address or something?

Ringo: and we "wish" only the best. :-)

H20rat: yah but I like to push bryce

MetaJohn: jfeld@metacreations.com

gdmsynth: Moving water again?

MetaJohn: Elf your question?

3d~?~elf: anything like that in the TE drawing window? like the rayspray thing...(looking for additional constrains/eggs there...in B4)

Undo...Quick!: .....yeah, and multiple undo, too. (It's near and dear to my heart, don'cha know)

MetaJohn: email please!

Undo...Quick!: okay.

<slinking back into my corner>

MetaJohn: Was that your question elf?

3d~?~elf: yup!

ahole: I don't get it elf... PLease xplain

what eggs are you lookgin for....

Yojimbo: ?

gdmsynth: He wants an Easter Egg....

Undo...Quick!: LOL

3d~?~elf: understanding more and more how powerfull the TE is, and wanting to know if there are any things we don't have knowledge of yet

MetaJohn: Easter eggs you have to find! But give Ales time and he will let them slip out!

ahole: I am sure there are....

Steve Lareau: He's such a tease! ;D

Yojimbo: lol

Undo...Quick!: Cool.

ahole: :)

H20rat: hehe too bad we can't force beer down him in chat

Undo...Quick!: Developers are like that, Steve.

3d~?~elf: i don'yt have nay extra bits to chomp on, you guys have them all

Undo...Quick!: :D

gdmsynth: LOL!!!

MetaJohn: Yojimbo, and lets make this the last question

Yojimbo: Oky

Alright I have real trouble trying to get the right base texture in the the DTE components

For example. I hit the randomize and eventually I find something I can edit

3d~?~elf: <chomping on poser4 bit, chomping on rds bit...my teeth hurt!!!>

MetaJohn: don't forget to floss!

Ringo: JAWS>

3d~?~elf: >g<

Undo...Quick!: LOL!

<get that bit-floss out>

MetaJohn: Anyone from bryce Camp want to take on Yojimbos question?

There was a dte day there!

Undo...Quick!: Camp? You all went to camp? Wow, I'm jealous now.

H20rat: ?

ahole: I am not sure if i understand the question....

Yojimbo: It's a Bozo Q, but I'm afraid I've never understood the DTE source very well

3d~?~elf: <i know you Metaguys are wanting to sneak outa here, and i just want to thank you for taking the time with/for us>

Yojimbo: Well say I go into the DTE

ahole: Undo about the wish list. All the things you're naming are already on it.

Good way to think about it is that if you have wish, most likely somebody

already asked for it

Yojimbo: And pick the Star preset

Undo...Quick!: Me too!! I want to thank you both, Ales and John. For your time, and your helpfulness.

H20rat: ditto

ahole: With a pleasure. It's fun with you guys....

Steve Lareau: <round of cyber applause>

Yojimbo: I can edit it

Undo...Quick!: Thanks, Ales.

<hear hear!!>

Go Go MCRE!

MetaJohn: Also thanx to CCasady for his excelent help!

gdmsynth: Thanks everyone for all of the helpful answers.

Yojimbo: , but if I pick another preset and enter the DTE

Undo...Quick!: Absolutely, thanks CC!

3d~?~elf: the gawd of greyscale!

Undo...Quick!: lol

ahole: Yojimbo I'm reading .. keep going....

Undo...Quick!: "gawd"

Lise: Hi Hawk the Great One!!!

Undo...Quick!: Hi, Hawk!

3d~?~elf: suthern

Undo...Quick!: I still have my Michigan accent here in Florida.

gdmsynth: Yojimbo, I don't have the answer but have you tried messing with the Filter frequency? That's been a big help to me.

Yojimbo: I guess the reall question is...

Undo...Quick!: <---- fears the DTE. Need to go to camp.

Yojimbo: are the DTE textures just a combination of Noise, Phase, and Filter?

Ringo: We should do a MetaCreations animation...not a logo type but Bryce type.

Yojimbo: Yeah I know the tools pretty well

3d~?~elf: don't fear it, have a schnapps and wade right in

Meta Hawk: hey all. :)

Undo...Quick!: LOL

Okay....

Yojimbo: But it's the starting point that I don't really get

gdmsynth: I'm sorry. I meant the noise. That's a biggy.

Undo...Quick!: Grocery List: Milk & Schnapps

H20rat: ewwwwwwww

ahole: Yojimbo, they are, but the combinations are rather complex

3d~?~elf: yucj

MetaJohn: Lets let yojimbo finish

Undo...Quick!: ....and mouthwash... need that too.

<sorry>

3d~?~elf: yugo for "nasty tasting"

Ringo: Have a bunch of Poser figures building a Temple and ontop the words MetaCreations.

Yojimbo: Ahh so there are no other "pieces" that get calculated into the A B and C channels?

H20rat: almost as smoking a cigarette then drinking a glass of milk

Yojimbo: of a single component?

ahole: No, that's it....

Yojimbo: that's clears a lot up thanks

ahole: ;)

Yojimbo: and thank all of you for taking the time to answer a few questions

MetaJohn: Thanx guys for a fairly un Nebie night, it was fun

Yojimbo: lol

Undo...Quick!: Cool compliment.

ahole: John!

H20rat: thank u guys

Steve Lareau: We were paid off to make it this way.

H20rat: oh newbie ?

Yojimbo: hey Ales

Undo...Quick!: "un-newbie"

MetaJohn: Same place next week, and Aunti will be back to whip us all into shape

Yojimbo: what was that email address of your again?

Ringo: John, Here is the update: ftp://rfmgraphics@people.we.mediaone.net/ATOMIC.html

Steve Lareau: Oooh- whips? Wheeee!

JeffP: Thanks John...

gdmsynth: Thanks guys

ccasady: I get it

MetaJohn: Not working Ringo!

Ringo: again?

MetaJohn: <spinning chairs here>

ccasady: we're wrapping

MetaJohn: the page this time

Steve Lareau: Didja all know you can increase the text size in here? Control up arrow!

gdmsynth: I'm a newbie until I get paid....

Steve Lareau: LOL!

H20rat: anyone wants a new SCI FI model - via battletech universe I got a new Stormcrow on my site http://www.geocities.com/TimesSquare/6966

Ruddigger: change font control ->

Yojimbo: w/b clay

ccasady: I gave colors to all (some) of the neames!

3d~?~elf: wbklay

Undo...Quick!: H20 you're a mechwarrior fan?

Clay: thanks

MetaJohn: Saving the log

Undo...Quick!: Me too.

MetaJohn: thanx again
