MetaJohn: So Newbie night will be a little bit of a free for all Clay: shhhhh, don't say that or there'll be a stampede Morpheus: aha you tryd to ditch me Clay: LOL DAMN! Morpheus: okay fine then Clay: http://www.phase2.net/claygraphics/test_page_4.html hi guy Bryguy: hi Jeffric: hi Bryguy Undo...Quick!: Hey Morpheus: please god tell me you used photoshop alot clay Clay: hi chris Baument: nice curtains Clay: 100%Bryce ccasady: Newbie night! That's so cute! Undo...Quick!: Curtains? Is that what they are? ccasady: Who thought of that? Morpheus: let me guess transparent 2d plane near the camera Undo...Quick!: Newbie night....this is so embarrassing. 3d~?~elf: have u tweaked this one, klay? Clay: 2D squares Undo...Quick!: <kidding> Clay: no Elf Morpheus: just one or more clay 3d~?~elf: looks bettrer tonight Clay: 2 thanks elf LOL!! Morpheus: one for stars one for nebula? Undo...Quick!: what's the subject? Clay: yeppers Hi Janak Undo...Quick!: oh, the nebula 3d~?~elf: aand my monitor is a day older! JeffP: Clay...going to talk about this image next Monday...Right! MetaJohn: OK So it seems to be 7 here on the West Coast Undo...Quick!: I was actually there last week, I think. ....in the nebula. MetaJohn: If you have a question type ? If you feel you have an answer to a question please type ! Journeyman: One wonders how if KPT John and MetaJohn are both on at the same time Clay: shh it's satrting Undo...Quick!: ? MetaJohn: Two machines, two versions of Bryce! 3d~?~elf: stinker... MetaJohn: OK Quick start it off Undo...Quick!: This is a problem I came up with yesterday. I would like to create a big nasty thunderhead. The mother of all cumulonimbus clouds....but.... Undo...Quick!: ....I want the sky to be clear in places. ccasady: No strata clouds? Undo...Quick!: To add impact to the big grey storm. This is a thunderhead I actually saw in Indiana. MetaJohn: Anyone want to give Quick a solution? Undo...Quick!: The sky was clear.... ccasady: You turn off both Strata AND cululous coulds seperatly Undo...Quick!: Except for the approaching storm. Morpheus: ummmmmmmmmmm i do but i mostly work in space ccasady: I mean you can Journeyman: I would if I could John MetaJohn: If you feel you have an answer to a question please type ! Baument: ! ccasady: I know, most preset skies have both turned on, but you can uncheck them. MetaJohn: Go Bau ccasady: sorry Baument: interested in doing two scenes and then merging in photoshop 3d~?~elf: <no landscape "heavies" here tonight?> Baument: one with the thunderhead against clear sky, one with background sky and then composite MetaJohn: How about doing it all in Bryce? The Smoking Man: ! Undo...Quick!: I don't have photoshop. I have Corel Paint and Corel Draw. Yes, I would prefer to try to do it all in Bryce if possible! Morpheus: couldn't you just use a squashed sphere with a cloud texture ccasady: ! Morpheus: and turn clouds off MetaJohn: Yes Smoke Morpheus: sorry Journeyman: Morph, it is hard to do that and make it look good often (I know, shhh) The Smoking Man: Mines similar to quicks I would use a bunch of primitives grouped togrther MetaJohn: Chris? ccasady: What don't you like about Bryce's sky? You have a better photo you want to use as a BG? The Smoking Man: With volume cloud texture ccasady: because that's more of a photoshop question, How to mask Undo...Quick!: No photo. It's a storm I saw once, and it's forever captured in my mind's eye. ccasady: not a photo your trying to composit? Undo...Quick!: No. ccasady: again, What don't you like about Bryce's sky? The Smoking Man: ! Undo...Quick!: I love the Bryce sky. For this scene, though, the sky had few to none... clouds, except for the thunderhead. ccasady: Me thinks you don't like the default clouds Baument: trying to get a clear sky background with an ominous foreground thunderhead Undo...Quick!: Yes, Baument. ccasady: okay, so: go in the Sky Lab and you can disable those clouds completely Baument: I agree, if all in bryce then multiple squashed spheres with heavy volume textures The Smoking Man: maybe a cylinder with a huge bump map on it . . . Shadow^One: (falls in) quitely MetaJohn: That answer you Quick? 3d~?~elf: ! Undo...Quick!: Okay. <taking mental notes of all this> Yojimbo: hehe Undo...Quick!: I will try these things. Yojimbo: better write it donw Baument: throw in a couple of blue gel lights inside it too Yojimbo: down even Undo...Quick!: Thank you very much. MetaJohn: If you have a question type ? 3d~?~elf: ! Undo...Quick!: I will save this discussion to disk before I power down. Thanks to all. Shadow^One: whats going on first? MetaJohn: Elf? 3d~?~elf: what about carving a terrain mesh or a sym latt? Yojimbo: Newbie Night Shadow Shadow^One: ahhh thanks Yojimbo: it's a Q&A as I understand it MetaJohn: If you have a question type ? Yes Yojimbo Undo...Quick!: I tried that Elf. It may yet work....I just need more time. MetaJohn: Everyone supplying the Answers Shadow^One: give me a minute ill think of one gdmsynth: ? Yojimbo: muhahaha |

quickdraw: ? MetaJohn: Quick it will certainly take time gdmsynth you are on gdmsynth: Is there are keyboard shortcut to toggle between the Selection Palette and the Animation controls? I tried using Quickeys 4.0 and that didn't seem to be compatible with Bryce 4. 3d~?~elf: <similar ?> metafernc: "S" quickdraw: I have a bunch of lights on flying saucer...I duplicated and want to switch out the light objects with actual lights.... gdmsynth: Just "S"? Shadow^One: ? quickdraw: how do you switch to a light object ccasady: ! gdmsynth: Wow! It works! MetaJohn: OK and now you elfChris gdmsynth: Thanks ccasady: There's a swapping pallet MetaJohn: Sorry elf Shadow^One: ? ccasady: you got it? 3d~?~elf: similar in that, you can tear off other 'palletts, does animation palet tera off too? quickdraw: where is the swapping pallett ccasady: swapping pallet: tiny little arrow at top of Edit Palet there is a secnd way too: metafernc: no elf, it's only one palette at this point. 3d~?~elf: k, done quickdraw: thanks...I coundnb't find it in the index ccasady: Under Edit: you can: "Copy matrix" then... deleete the object, Create a light, and , under Edit: "Paste matrix" Journeyman: If you hold down space and click and drag the arrow on the edit menu, you can drag that so it shows the edit and create window at the sametime (I don't know if this is new) ccasady: it will pop to the position of the object you copied MetaJohn: OK Shadow your turn Shadow^One: tiling in the terrain editor how do youget it to work properly.. tile north ccasady: ! Shadow^One: south etc MetaJohn: Chris again! Morpheus: okay parents making me leave evan earlier bye all MetaJohn: Bye Morph Yojimbo: night ccasady: For it to work..... you have to have all three.... Clay: cya Jeffric: bye Morpheus Journeyman: bye Shadow^One: cya morph ccasady: randomize buttons deisabled Shadow^One: ok... Caridad: ? ccasady: have you found the pop-up with the Fractal types? Shadow^One: and then exactly what is its effect... yes cc ccasady: Okay, so then you make a terrain.... Shadow^One: yup ccasady: back in the main view...duplicate it, move it north and go back in terraion editor, click Fractal again, you get a new terrain that tiles north Shadow^One: so the two come together to make one ccasady: as long as you don't interrupt this process you can tile infinitly MetaJohn: You must move it to the top of the original terrain Shadow^One: i see ccasady: changing direction as you go. good luck! it works Shadow^One: sounds good Clark/CDS: tiled terrains still need to be manuelly aligned !!!!! Yojimbo: ? MetaJohn: OK Caridad ccasady: True! Yojimbo: You mean they have to be seamless John? Shadow^One: i havent been able to so far but we;ll see ccasady: bummer but true Caridad: Is there a way to avoid rendering"weirdosity" (geometry edges showing) when rendering picture objects in clouds or fog? MetaJohn: Anyone? ccasady: caridad: Clarify more? MetaJohn: You know wierdiosity! ccasady: is this an imported obje3ct? Yojimbo: lol ccasady: yea! gdmsynth: Are you using a mask for the picture? Shadow^One: lol Caridad: I have grass, lots of grass, mapped on planes in the fog. Undo...Quick!: I don't know weirdosity. Clarification will help me. robokoneko: ? gdmsynth: You must use a mask along with the picture to get rid of the edges if thats what you mean. ccasady: pictures of Grass? or a pixilization of a BMP texture? how is the "grass" made? Caridad: the edges of the planes will occationally show requiring retouching... ccasady: "Planes" like faceting? MetaJohn: I assume edge effects gdmsynth: Yes, I know what he means I've seen that problem too. Even with a mask there can be lines on the edges of a pict. ccasady: if so, it's a poor masking job. right? Caridad: These are "Picture Objects". As in Bryce Picture Objects. ccasady: theyres a way around that gdmsynth: I've seen it occur with a pitch black mask. MetaJohn: More Chris? ccasady: clean up your alpha channel Caridad: It seems to happen only when the object is in fog or volumetric objects. ccasady: That's all I ca think of, not sure I understand the problem Shadow^One: scratch MetaJohn: It sounds like you may have to go to an editor app and cleans up those edges MetaJohn: Yojimbo Yojimbo: it was a follow up to the tiling question Yojimbo: to your response actually Caridad: Photoshop has been the solution but very time comsuming Clay: LOL Shadow^One: go Joj yoj lol Yojimbo: I was wondering if the terrains needed... Clark/CDS: or use the alpha to create a terrain that fits Undo...Quick!: ? Yojimbo: to be seamlessly placed next to one another nice nick Shadow^One: me to ccasady: ! MetaJohn: Chris.. ccasady: You mean to get tile terrains? Yojimbo: correct ccasady: Yes, they must always be adjacent Shadow^One: grin gdmsynth: ? Yojimbo: how accurate is what I'm wonderig Shadow^One: adjacent cool Yojimbo: wondering MetaJohn: Yes they should be placed correctly to have the right effect of seamlessness Shadow^One: do they mesh perfectly? ccasady: Ales compared it to "never lifting up your pencil" Yojimbo: ahh relatively seemless then not absolute ccasady: Yes, the terrains match perfectly, but don't mesh perfectly if you know what I mean
