Betty: Wonderful is what it is! Rob_C: bye jeff! =) Jeffric: bye all :) Calyxa: bye, Jeff AuntiAlias: then play with increasing haze amount Betty: bye Jeff Shadow^One: i have to split as well..heres to the next one\ take care be cool AuntiAlias: haze is also affected by cloud height Calyxa: bye, Shadow AuntiAlias: so higher cloud height, more haze you have Shadow^One: bye caly all AuntiAlias: there are also new subtleties in haze in Sky Lab Lise: Ciao Shadow! AuntiAlias: still sussing that out Cricket: Bye Jeff KathG: By Jeff Same here :) AuntiAlias: ambient color is good for determining shadows for realistic scenes, make it gray-blue Sumo: I am still listening Auntie... AuntiAlias: realistic nature scenes still prattliing on here, Sumo ; ) Rob_C: Gotta run too... i slacked off yesterday and built a website when I shoulda been doing my homework! =P Sumo: No, you carry on! AuntiAlias: I think that you can get some good looking scenes just be tweaking those three controls: sun position, haze and ambient color Betty: I'm listening too Aunti. Keep going, please... :) Calyxa: I should be doing homework... AuntiAlias: here's a challenge for you uncleju: what is gray blue in RGB ? Rob_C: kaybye! =) Beartrap: HLS is a much easier colour model to work with... AuntiAlias: hold down the option or alt key when clicking the color swatch for ambient color (this option/alt modifier works for all colro swatches) Beartrap: BTW, thanks Aunti for putting me on to HLS via RWB2 :) AuntiAlias: you get more numeical control Calyxa: HLS rules AuntiAlias: yes, I LOVE HLS pick a blue, and then pull back on the S (Saturation) slider to make the blue grayer uncleju: I need thy info for the numeric control for the gray blue I got it AuntiAlias: welcome Beartrap! I use that ALL The time! so.. back to this challenge.... Beartrap: so do I now :) AuntiAlias: create a basic gray terrain scene. when you save it, give it a number such as "Sky Test 01" then make a change with the sun, let it render a bit... and select File > Save AS uncleju: is it possible to create a terrain sans material? AuntiAlias: Bryce will automatically increase the number, so it'll be Sky Test 02 Calyxa: hold down ctrl while creating terrain. AuntiAlias: keep making little adjustements to the sky in your scene. uncleju: thanks AuntiAlias: But limit your changes to these three: sun position, haze amount and ambient color make a few dozen scenes with variations KathG: Hi susan just Pre-ordered you New book from Amazon UK Can hardly wait for it to come out :) AuntiAlias: then batch render it when you go to lunch after a while of doing that, you'll get a feel for what you can do with those controls Beartrap: (whispers) thanks for hinting Kath - I promised myself I wasn't going to :) Sumo: Oh my - so THAT is batch rendering..... Never worked it out AuntiAlias: well.. I described two different things Sumo: I too have ordered the book - B2 version was the best. AuntiAlias: first is creating a scene. a variation. render a pass or two, then save do lots of those AuntiAlias: i.e., make lots of scenes, but don't force yoruself to wait until all scenes render. KathG: It is just to easy Bear. I have baught a few books since finding amazon Uk. If they are in stock they always Arrive within two days. Easier than going into the town <g> AuntiAlias: then, when you are done with this make-a change, quick-save AS... take all your scene icons and drag them onto the BRyce application icon (or alias or shortcut) Sumo: okay, I see Auntie, but am I getting a similar 'test' by running an animation sequence? AuntiAlias: and bryce opens each one, renders it yes, you could do it that way too, Sumo! in fact, I heard that someone finds good skies by setting up different settings, making keyframes letting Bryce calculate "tweens" and using animation preview to select the particualr sky setting that is desireable one thing I wonder tho Betty: oh that's an idea.. hmmmm Sumo: Someone on the KPT list alerted me to that tip, it is how I have pinned down some very nice skies. AuntiAlias: is whether that method (keyframes) puts as much of a sense of what's going on into your gut as when you create a separate scene for each tweak you made either way, after you get a nice sky, using Anim Tween method.... LOOK at what the settings are and try to understand what Bryce is doing! : ) Sumo: No, it doesn't, but what it does do (for me) if produce realistic cloud formations that I can pull out of a series of weaker ones. AuntiAlias: Another idea, after you've done sun and haze and ambient color.... is to work on clouds frequency and amplitude graph on sky and fog palette has slider controls in sky lab (and I like doing all of this in sky lab, too, where you see good preview of your scene) Cricket: Lower amplitude makes softer-edged clouds AuntiAlias: yes... the higher the amplitude the more defined they are at the edges amplitude can be reversed Sumo: These are the sliders that made B4 worth the upgrade price! Very useful. AuntiAlias: if you have sky here and cloud there with positive amplitude then change to negative and you'll get cloud here and sky there Lise: Sorry, got some phone calls to make. This was real fun, hope to see you all soon. Bye *-) AuntiAlias: (i.e., cloud part and sky part switch places) Betty: bye Lise KathG: By lise :0 Cricket: Bye Lise...thanks for more presets! KathG: :) uncleju: later lise Sumo: Negative amplitude? AuntiAlias: do that for a whole bunch of scenes... just cloud coverage and frequency and amount and amplitude Sumo: Hang on... AuntiAlias: try it for one and the other and both types of clouds Sumo: Umm, now I feel like an idiot! I didn't know it went negative... AuntiAlias: and make a series of scenes for those.... two series of scenes, and you've tackeled the intracacies of sun/haze/ambient color and of cloud shapes and so forth.... KathG: The slider turns yellow Sumo when it is negative Sumo: It does, I just found out! KathG: LOL AuntiAlias: keep picking out small bits of things to work on, and after a while, the sky model gets nicely settled into your gut and you'll KNOW what to do to get a certain effect next time around! : ) Sumo: I know what I will be doing this evening.... Thanks for all that everyone. Extremely helpful. AuntiAlias: That's how I've been learning what the new controls in Sky Lab work Betty: Sumo, I spent a whole day in there! AuntiAlias: yes.. speaking of time.... Sumo: So did I, but obviously found less than you did! AuntiAlias: I think that I'll pass around the snack tray one last time and then slink on out of here.... : ) Betty: Don't tell my husband. He thought I was "working"! LOL AuntiAlias: ::::::::passes Snack tray around:::::: Cricket: LOL Sumo: Thanks Auntie. Cricket: ::munching and running:: Gotta git...see y'all later! Betty: thanks, Susan Calyxa: (lost in DTE making clouds...) thanks! Betty: bye Cricket Sumo: Bye all. See you next time. Betty: bye uncleju: bye KathG: Yes if I want to come back on Thursday I think it is time for me to log off...........Bye All, thank you . Really enjoyed tonight . AuntiAlias: <--saving log.... and moseying off 3d~?~elf: tarah, sumo! Sumo: TTFN Betty: bye Kath AuntiAlias: glad to have had this at a time that's convenient for those of you on continents east of here! 3d~?~elf: tanks susan ! Sumo: The time was good. Beartrap: thanks AA! Sumo: Thanks again. 3d~?~elf: yup AuntiAlias: you're welcome! cheers and g'night!
