Euro BryceTalk Housewarming, June 1, 1999
Part 3

AuntiAlias: so.... what other events do you want to see here on Tuesdays?

Shadow^One: i can do that lise

Tonebone: It would be great if someone could work out a way of doing an on-line interactive version of Bryce camp

Shadow^One: i was happy

it was great

HappyRed: :o))))

I love this country!!

AuntiAlias: besides make-a-textxure-from-scratch-in the DTE and have 10% of Jeff Richardson's talent?

Shadow^One: was at mount ranier whole thing

nice

AuntiAlias: ...did I miss any other requests?

3d~?~elf: klaus busse?

Tonebone: They would be very busy for sure...

HappyRed: the weather is warming up here and it's getting nice

Shadow^One: terrain thing

AuntiAlias: Terrain discussion in BryceTalk? that would be good! :D

Lise: I'm surfing the countryside to see if it could work out here.

Shadow^One: yes aunt need one

took lots of pics happy

Tonebone: That would be really cool Lise

KathG: Tips on placing the camera

Shadow^One: hey lise if you get a camp thing going it would be way easy for me to get to quebec

HappyRed: shadow, on the mountain loop highway, there are some real ice caves

KathG: Aunti

Shadow^One: really..i missed those..

went 6000 on that mountain

AuntiAlias: <---copying and pasting the suggestions into a text file ccalled "requests"

keep throwing out ideas! :D :D

HappyRed: it's not well known.... even the locals don't know about it

Shadow^One: was cool could see mt sthelens

Jeffric: <shouts from back of room> a sky tutorial

HappyRed: I bet!!!

Tonebone: from Quebec????

Shadow^One: sky i second that jeff

lol

KathG: Sky I third that <g>

Betty: me third :)

Owen M: I would like some tips on using bryce renders in post production packages like photoshop

Calyxa: you going to teach that, Jeff?

Betty: guess it's gotta be 4th

3d~?~elf: contrained to bryce?...what about poser w/ bryce?

HappyRed: the discussions on these various subjects sound great aunti!!!

AuntiAlias: so Poser and Bryce discussion?

Beartrap: apps to use before going into Bryce...

Jeffric: lol Caly

Shadow^One: yes cooolness and everyonce in awhile aunt a free for all

lol

AuntiAlias: who do you know who is really good with both apps?

Sumo: Back Again....

AuntiAlias: suggest someone as guest artist/expert...

or suggest a few someones

: )

Beartrap: brb...

3d~?~elf: peter sharpe?

Shadow^One: get whats his name on tuts

AuntiAlias: especially since we have Poser 4 coming out soon

Shadow^One: peter sharpe

KathG: I would like tips on how to keep the file size down. Was working on a scene last night, and things crept to a halt. When I checked the size it was around 70 megs

Shadow^One: wow 70 kath

HappyRed: oh my Kath.....

Shadow^One: on animae?

or just pic?

KathG: I am using P11 450 with 128 ram

3d~?~elf: might need to work differently, kathg

AuntiAlias: lots of terrains?

Jeffric: Martin Murphy is good with all apps, Peter Sharpe too, he's done a flot of tutorials

Shadow^One: ya peter would be cool i use his tuts alot

learned most from his tuts

KathG: I was tring to put in the zygote fearie, ending up taking the image into poser and adding them there

Tonebone: How about if Metacreations set up a monitored discussion board under each of the tutorial topics mentioned, gave a few hints on each subject and then see how things develop??

HappyRed: good idea tone

Galaxian: I just noticed that I can copy and paste from the Bryce Talk screen! Good feature.

KathG: The scene was made up with mountains (as usual) trees and some plants

Owen M: Where can i find these tutorials from peter Sharpe?

Calyxa: www.petersharpe.com

Owen M: oh easy

Sumo: Trees will do it Kath....

AuntiAlias: a discussion board is an excellent idea; one we've been thinking about and have been developing...

Shadow^One: sharpe has easy user friendly tuts owen

HappyRed: Calyxa, are you peter sharpe?

KathG: You are right there Sumo,

Tonebone: cool.. Susan, great minds etc etc :)

renderin': are there any plans to incorporate the importing of poser keyframes into bryce in the future?

Calyxa: ??? no

Shadow^One: i still think a page with pics of the bryce users with nicks

AuntiAlias: best stuff for online community is to have both live discussion -- such as here -- and threaded discussion such as boards.... have been developing both but unrolling out at different times...

Shadow^One: so we can all see each other

grin

AuntiAlias: : )

Sumo: I have a Japanese Garden scene at under 2Mb, it jumps to 32 when I add trees.

Tonebone: I gotta say that Brycetalk has proved to be invaluable so far..

AuntiAlias: when you add models to the scene, well, you add file size for all those polygons (esp if trees were created in Tree Pro or something like that)

HappyRed: I agree Tone!

Shadow^One: it has even for us amatuers

its great

Beartrap: back...

Shadow^One: have learned tons

Jeffric: if you use Bill Munns tree technique you can get trees that are fairly small in filesize - hey, Calyxa makes some darned good trees too !!

KathG: I started off with 768 X512 image size and reduced it to the default, thiking it might shrink the file size. But know go

AuntiAlias: no, the image size does nothing to chang scene file size, only final rendered image size

Tonebone: Any news on Bryce5 yet Susan? I know its early but I want SOFT SHADOWS!!!

Lise: Anybody speak spanish here. Someone in the Lobby doesn't seem to speak english or french, I'm stuuuuuuuuuuck!!!

Betty: some

Sumo: Re BryceTalk, I must say I have been a little underwhelmed. I ploughed through the Martin Murphy log and got about six lines of useful info, out of what? hundreds?

Tonebone: Sorry Lise, can't help

Calyxa: sometimes being there makes all the difference, Sumo.

HappyRed: that's too bad Lise.... :o(

Lise: Forget it, funny guy playine a joke.

playing

Shadow^One: lol

no sprek

Sumo: I agree Calyxa, but timing a problem for us in UK, hence this room.

Shadow^One: it works for me to..sumo this room

im east cpast usa

AuntiAlias: Yes, the difficulty is reading it live or reading it later...

Sumo: Most times work for me! I rarely sleep....

AuntiAlias: aaah, calyxa said that already

KathG: LOL

Shadow^One: lol...i sleep all day work thirds over here

Tonebone: Thats why I think monitored discussion boards might be better

AuntiAlias: (is just picturing the absolute craziness of this log from this free for all)

Shadow^One: 930pm to 730 am here

Tonebone: LOL

KathG: LOL

Shadow^One: wow

AuntiAlias: it's wonderful being with all of you now, but I pity those who read about this later! :D

Shadow^One: haaa

KathG: <VBG>

3d~?~elf: hey it's all part of being global, right?

Calyxa: message boards can be really good when folks stick to the message board formalities and don't try to chat there...

AuntiAlias: right...

Tonebone: Susan, any news of Bryce5?? read ^^^^^

Owen M: So, is this just like a welcomey thingy for Europeany ?

Jeffric: lol - and if you're a euro Bryce 4 user and are reading this in the log, where were you?

Shadow^One: y

AuntiAlias: the posted logs of events are a poor substitute

3d~?~elf: like some maiul, lists...lol

AuntiAlias: Tonebone, Bryce 4 just shipped and you want news about Bryce 5?

Sumo: General Question: do you think the BryceTalk/KPT Bryce community encompasses most of the talented Brycers, or are there others out there, perhaps not on the Web, who are producing amazing work? And how many lurkers are there on KPT?

AuntiAlias: er...

Tonebone: hehe, I want Soft Shadows and I don't want to have to use something other than Bryce

AuntiAlias: that's to say that no, I don't have news for you on Bryce 5...

Shadow^One: i know of a few others who never come here..friends i consider talented anyway

Galaxian: Well, I'll see y'all around... I'm in California, so I'd better get back to work (in Bryce, of course). Thanks for the visit... P. St.Clair

AuntiAlias: sowwy .

Tonebone: ok Susan, sorry if I was being pushy

Sumo: I have seen a lot of good work in Computer Arts magazine for instance.

AuntiAlias: no problem.. no such thing as a dumb quesiton, but there is such a thing as a question for which there's no answer 9yet)

; )

Jeffric: there are 1000+ folk on the kpt list, but most messages come from a very small number of those

AuntiAlias: er (yet)

Tonebone: :)

Shadow^One: hey lann

Sumo: A thousand? Wow.

Shadow^One: is there

3d~?~elf: too right, jeff

Lise: The old listies are very quiet these days.

Calyxa: and I'm not one of them.

KathG: by Peter

3d~?~elf: i'm unsubbed...got to be too much

Calyxa: I read archives of the KPT list on the delphi msgboard, tho.

Shadow^One: kpt list..explain that

Sumo: Perhaps the likes of me scared them off!

Shadow^One: why is it i never hear of things..lol

HappyRed: LOL

Shadow^One: ok stuid question what is kpt list

3d~?~elf: a pain

AuntiAlias: it's a subscription mailing list...

3d~?~elf: >g<

AuntiAlias: topics run from Bryce to KPT to other things MetaCreations...

Shadow^One: ahhh

AuntiAlias: can get off-topic ramblingly

Sumo: And other topics Aunti...

AuntiAlias: (hence the comment "pain")

Jeffric: and every weekend we get a 'guest' subscription to the kpt list, some poor bod who suddenly gets an inbox full of kpt mail and doesn't know why !!! And whos only way of getting off te list involves swearing a lot !

Shadow^One: ahhh pain

i see

ooookkkkk

Sumo: For me the pain is worth it, ditto poser list

Well worth it

Little Kai: tooodles... I gotta go and get some work done here

Betty: LOL Jeff!

Shadow^One: got a url sumo

AuntiAlias: see you, Little Kai!

Little Kai: cu

Lise: Bye Kai!

Jeffric: bye little Kai

HappyRed: bye Kai

Shadow^One: guess ill have to check it

KathG: Bye Kai

Shadow^One: bye

AuntiAlias: url for the list?

Betty: bye

Shadow^One: yes

AuntiAlias: hang on, I'll get it for you

Sumo: Nope, I don't hold with herditary titles.

Shadow^One: or site or whatever

Tonebone: Here's a Bryce Question for you all, does anyone know if there exists a graphical representation of all the new noises in the DTE. Its a real bind trying to create something when you have no starting point..

3d~?~elf: expect 70+ mails a day...

Shadow^One: ehh 70 really

Cricket: More like 100+ LOL

Tonebone: Hi Uncle

Shadow^One: dont have that much time

wow

uncleju: Hi Tbone

AuntiAlias: funny, ToneBone.. I just did something like that for my lecture notes for BryceCamp

3d~?~elf: hey cricket!

Cricket: Hiyas!

Jeffric: hello Cricket !

Shadow^One: hmmmm

Tonebone: ooh ooh ooh, gimee gimee

Betty: hi Cricket

AuntiAlias: I may post them as jpegs on my website in time for the DTE BryceTalk interactive thingie I'll be doing...

Sumo: That would be helpful Aunti

uncleju: Hi, Susan

Tonebone: That would be bloomin marvelous Susan

KathG: That would be good Aunti :)

Calyxa: that didn't come close to being all of them, though, more like variations of a couple different ones, right?

3d~?~elf: is ther going to be much BC info put up for all?

Jeffric: ee-by-gum, that'd be right grand AA

AuntiAlias: info for subscribing to the KPT list is found from a link on this page: http://www.metacreations.com/community/online_resources/index.html

uncleju: Hi, Susan, mine will be out in a few days

Shadow^One: thanks

Aunt

AuntiAlias: I don't have ALL of them as much as lots on the voronoi noises with different modes, filtes, etc

Tonebone: It's strange there was nothing in the manual about the new noises (and the existing ones) I thought

Sumo: We like Voronoi

AuntiAlias: Tonbone, they slid into the software under the wire at the last minute!.. same with the fractal noises in terrain editor, I think!

Beartrap: that section of the manual was pretty much lifted straight from the B3 manual

Cricket: Yes, voronoi is a favorite of mine!

Tonebone: I see

3d~?~elf: hey, even B2 accessories are still usable...

AuntiAlias: which was adapted from....

well.. never mind! ; )

Tonebone: hehehe, I think I was ahead of you there Susan

Beartrap: it's how someone I knew very well does his monthly reports for work...

HappyRed: I still like some of the presettings I made in Bryce1

Beartrap: oops - know!!
