Michael has finally arrived. Steve Lareau: Be that Michael F? Calyxa: your Bryce session... not your netscape window or your wallpaper... no telling what might be there! AuntiAlias: Any other Tips? Materials/DTE/Animation/ 3d~?~elf: lol Michael: Steve - nope sorry, Michael V. AuntiAlias: if you gotta tip, please type ! Steve Lareau: ? AuntiAlias: (otherwise we'll begin to wrap this up....) Steve: ask away! Steve Lareau: Ok, I'll ask- has anyone else sat here slamming away at the sky randomizer? 3d~?~elf: tell lareau about PS filters in Mat. lab? Steve Lareau: Much cooler goodies randomly with B4 than the previous ones. Calyxa: ! AuntiAlias: good tip! Calyxa-- go for it! :D Calyxa: there's some DTE stuff hanging off my new tree tutorial at http://www.best.com/~calyxa/pearl/newtrees.html boru: yes, steve Sky Pilot: has flown the coop! Sky Pilot has more important business elsewhere. AuntiAlias: okay.. honesty time: how many people here work in the DTE? or... how many people DON'T work in the DTE? Mhyper: TE->DTE->PS Filters->Materal Lab-> render boru: Not me as such robokoneko: I have bumbled around in it a bit and am still mystified. rvanderlippe: live there 3d~?~elf: more so since the AA tut Mhyper: back and forth at random Steve Lareau: (On a side note- the mov file of the animated nagetive boolean is here: http://www.hilltopdesign.com/temp/boring.mov Calyxa: while I've got some tutorial stuff on it, there's still a ton more about it I have yet to learn. Steve Lareau: AA- tis confusing and cool at the same time, lots ofpower once ya get to understand it. AuntiAlias: agreed, Steve.. once you get to understand it! :D Michael: AuntiAlias - last time I was here (two weeks ago) I suggested that everyone lists their online galleries. I think it would be a great idea again, I'm a little late, but I figured the hard cores would still be here. Calyxa: http://www.best.com/~calyxa/pearl/ is my main gallery VFR750 has joined the party! AuntiAlias: others web sites? anyone? everyone? robokoneko: http://home.pacbell.net/gsasf/home.htm dawn: www.tdrphoto.com/artcave.html 3d~?~elf: sorry, no wow.com boru: http://www2.cybernex.net/~boru/ Steve Lareau: http://www.hilltopdesign.com http://members.tripod.com/~bryceart/ Bryce Portals Site http://www.hilltopdesign.com/bryceportals/ AuntiAlias: re: the DTE.... Steve Lareau: Caly- very trippy tree tut btw! (enough acronyms there?) Calyxa: thanks, likewise your anim. AuntiAlias: for those of you who'd like to learn more, what would you like to learn more about ("everything" while a good answer for you, perhaps, doesn't help me to know how/what to develop in the way of teaching)? e.g. noises, filters, modes... technique of construction? stuff like that... Calyxa: filters, combination modes. boru: I'd like to know how you go from a mental image of a texture, to a texture. robokoneko: Basic orientation - what noise is and is for, what phase is and is for... AuntiAlias: (same way ya get to Carnegie Hall -- praactice, practice practice!) Steve Lareau: Oh- and one thing that I wish EVERYONE would do- when you create a page for your web site, PLEASE put your name in the title there somewhere! Like Calyxa's New Brycean Trees
JeffP: Where do you start? Refining process? Steve Lareau: instead of NEw Brycean Trees. Done Calyxa: sorry, Steve, I ususally do that sort of thing... AuntiAlias: these are good suggestions... any more? Calyxa: best to bookmark my main tutorial page, tho... dawn: I had the fortune to meet and discuss 3D with a guy who works in the TV/Film industry the other day..He had a great tip for creating distant forests/treelines while cutting down polygon count. Steve Lareau: I know... you're *usually* pretty good. My bookmarks are out of control.... and I do, ;D JeffP: The thought process before you start. AuntiAlias: here's what I'm thinking.... after I do the BryceCamp presentaiton on Materials/DTE.... I may turn it into a 2-3 week series here in BryceTalk Steve Lareau: then you can come over here and play? boru: Excellent, AA! robokoneko: Yay! dawn: he says to put a tree texture onto 2 different 2d planes and group them together into a "plus" shape.. Mhyper: yes! dawn: a total of 12 polygons for group... per group.. Calyxa: some of the preset trees are like that, dawn Steve Lareau: Ahh, gotcha. Threw me for a minute... JeffP: How about a translation of the "math" in DTE into artist terms. AuntiAlias: there's a lot of wisdom in that method, Dawn.... like the filters? 3d~?~elf: wengerrender Steve Lareau: Ooh! AA!!! ??????????? AuntiAlias: like what-in-blazes is this aX+B stuff? 3d~?~elf: yes!!!!!\ AuntiAlias: yeeeeees, Steve? JeffP: You got it. Steve Lareau: Haha! Been meaning to ask you about this one for a while! Mhyper: thats it AA Steve Lareau: Sorry- I'm excitable lately- AuntiAlias: well... I do have cursory explanatiosn in RWB2 Kikuchiyo wants to play too. Steve Lareau: in one of the tree presets in Bryce, there's a material for the tree that if you open and look at it on the material editor AuntiAlias: uh.. so ask, Steve.. ask! JeffP: I will be looking at RWB2 again...thanks Steve Lareau: it looks like a top view of an Xmas tree, a pine tree affair. AuntiAlias: I'min Bryce right now... which one? Watto is off to see the Wizard. Michael is off to render mirrored spheres. Steve Lareau: What I wondered is HOW is the GREEN area surround the "needles" part made invisible?!? AuntiAlias: which preset? Calyxa: I'd guess it's a pict texture and it has an alpha channel Steve Lareau: Argh! I KNEW I should have checked first- BRB! AuntiAlias: which preset? 3d~?~elf: 14? AuntiAlias: <---is beginning to sound like a broken record, aaack! Steve Lareau: actuallly tree #2 is like this uses image 29 in it AuntiAlias: I just put it in my scene for the cone shapes? Steve Lareau: Yeah, take a peek at the material on the cones. (sounds like a Pauly Shore line!) ;D AuntiAlias: looking at one of the meshes TIP! Control key plus clicking in scene gives you a pop up menu for you to select objects! Calyxa: it's a pict texture with an alpha channel. AuntiAlias: windows key combination is prolly different Calyxa's hot on the trail I'm in the Mat Lab Steve Lareau: Argh... alpha channel. AuntiAlias: I see a picture Mhyper: inversed alpha channel Steve AuntiAlias: clicked texture source editor adn lo! there's an alpha channel that looks like leaves er.. pine cones Calyxa: needles Steve Lareau: After seeing that material, I keep thinking how slick a Painter Hose Nozzle of a "tree branch" would look used in this way. AuntiAlias: and you cna click the copy button Kikuchiyo has just left. dawn: Aunti--got a question..I don't have the program yet, but does Canoma support photoshop plugins? AuntiAlias: then shift T to get to bryce talk, which also allows you to accfess the application menu (if you' reon windows, your mileage may vary) Calyxa: I've got to take off, thanks everyone, some great tips tonite! AuntiAlias: and I just pasted it in Photoshop where I am now lookign at it full size YES to Painter stuff Steve Lareau: Nite Caly! AuntiAlias: dawn, I don't know the answr to that Calyxa: bye! Calyxa has just left. dawn: ok thanks.. AuntiAlias: just looked in the index adn there is nothing listed under "plugin" so my guess would be no (if it did support it, there'd be an entry) dawn: darn... Steve Lareau: Of course not- it's probably under H for HOW.... ;D AuntiAlias: well... I think at this point, I'll bring any last "officalness" to this tips and tricks to a close.... tho you can hang and talk BryceStuff as looong as you want! :D
