MetaBrian: That's it, sorry it was from a topic I missed as well dcb_ disappears in a blinding flash of smoke. tuckersaur: Krause is WAY out of the building : ( Mhyper is off to see the Wizard. dcb_ has finally arrived. AuntiAlias: Bev, is that your sky tip? desdanova is off to render mirrored spheres. AuntiAlias: as you probably know, Kai has left the company, Eric is with U & I software, and Sree has been working hard on Office Advantage gdmsynth, go for it! gdmsynth: This is a simple one but...use sunlight from the side to emulate the "magic hour" effect of early morning or evening light. It really can make terrain scenes very striking. KPT John: And is still very much a part of Neta ahole: ! Mhyper has finally arrived. gdmsynth: There is a great example of this in Susan Kitchens RealBryce 2 book (San Gabriel morning) but it takes 30 minutes to render on a G3/400 due to the beautiful clouds and light rays.
OK. Bev Rage: link your camera to your sun if you know what's good for you rvanderlippe: unless you're animating AuntiAlias: Thanks, gdmsynth! tuckersaur: exactly ricardo! AuntiAlias: Calyxa, Clay, Rodney, ales is the queue and so, Calyxa: tell! Calyxa: Ken suggested using the voronoi distance noises for clouds, they work best at relatively low octaves and frequencies. http://www.best.com/~calyxa/pearl/ 0images/cloudsagain.jpg OK AuntiAlias: Clay, go for it! if you have a tip or trick for skies and fog, type ! Clay: my tip has been typed already:-( NEEEEXT! LOL AuntiAlias: aaah.. good things are worth knowing by others! : ) Clay: yep AuntiAlias: especiallywhen they already do. Rodney! Rodney: The default Camera View/ Sky Control relationship is totally confusing. If you reset your camera position to 0 X, 32 Y, -104 Z and the rotation to 0 X, 0 Y, 0 Z the camera is now centered on the front edge of the default ground plane icon grid. Now, uncheck "Link Sky to View" in the Sky Lab. MetaBrian: ! Rodney: Your camera will be facing due north and the skydome in the sky palette is aligned with your scene when viewed from the top view: North is the top of the screen/skydome, East is the right of the screen/skydome.... Now you can reliably predict how changing the position of the sun or camera will change your lighting. Sorry, Bev, but Linking Sun to View is usually a bad thing dpone Calyxa: wasn't that the default camera position for B1? boru: Great Rodney! AuntiAlias: Queue: Ales, followed by Brian tuckersaur: excellent tip - clark showed me one similar to this awhile back Rodney: Cal, yep rvanderlippe: ! SolidSnake has just left. AuntiAlias: Ales, dude, you are ON! :D ahole: I have a sky tip. If you alt click any of the controls in the sky palette (such as haze and fog and such) you will turn them off. It is just like going into the sky room and turning them off there. AuntiAlias: (also option click for Mac) PeterS has finally arrived. ahole: The control turns gray. AuntiAlias: (Skies Tip Queue: Brian, Rvanderlippe) Ringo has just left. ahole: Thanks Susan, tha it AuntiAlias: Brian!! MetaBrian: Here's a sky trick... Hold down CTRL while clicking the "moon image" button in the SkyLab... Hanover: lol tuckersaur: ! MetaBrian: You will be offered many images for the surface of the moon...he he he done Calyxa: do they come out right-side up now? ahole: Make sure you can see the moon though in your rendering. AuntiAlias: (Sky tip queue: Rvanderlippe, Tuckersaur... anyone having a tip for skies, please type !) Hanover: Just had to get that in there, didn't you? Mhyper: including the "dark" side? AuntiAlias: Richard!!! Clay: ! rvanderlippe: Just wanted to add to Rodney's tip - its one I was doing so often that I saved a default file for thats all :) tuckersaur: yeah default.br4 AuntiAlias: : ) Tuckersaur, you're on; clay will be next Rodney: ! Clay: Use your sky to make a neat planet..... http://www.phase2.net/claygraphics/ attack_on_tayloron_prime.html tuckersaur: a quick tip Render a sunrise animation - you have no idea how amazing Bryce's new sky model is until you see this in action. The clouds begin to glow like real life - it is amazing! Clay: sorry:( MonkeyT: ? (a question for the queue) Nizzy saunters in. AuntiAlias: both tuck and clay are done, yes? tuckersaur: yep Clay: yes sorry bout that AuntiAlias: it happens ; ) Monkey, is your question about skies? MonkeyT: Thank you so much for spherical clouds, Meta. Absolutely wonderful. Any details on them? The otherwise-exquisite manual pretty much skips over them. tuckersaur: LOL Nizzy: am i in the right room now AuntiAlias: yes, we're taking different topics in Bryce and sharing tips for them, with some q n a Bev Rage: any poser/bryce tips? tuckersaur: queueenayy KPT John: yes niz AuntiAlias: (I'll add that to the list of topics, Bev) justin wants to play too. AuntiAlias: Brian, Ales, any discussion on the spherical clouds? tuckersaur: is this a partial implementation of Ken's spherical sky model? MetaBrian: Here's how they work... Nizzy: I was wondering how to use that darn ani lab it AuntiAlias: Nizzy... we'll get to animation in a bit.. just hang tight : ) MetaBrian: No, tucker, not at all! tuckersaur: k Nizzy: ok I will be back Nizzy is off to see the Wizard. justin disappears in a blinding flash of smoke. DigiVI is off to see the Wizard. MetaBrian: In old versions of Bryce, the clouds were mapped onto a flat plane Therefore, they went off into infinity which caused bad aliasing of the clouds in the distance BikerX saunters in. PeterS has more important business elsewhere. padwaggled has just entered. MetaBrian: Now, we map them onto a sphere which causes them to go below the horizon before they get too far away padwaggled: am I here?? tuckersaur: got it - awesome! AuntiAlias: yes, pad.. shh! MetaBrian has the floor MetaBrian: Therefore, you can only see them for a certain distance...no aliasing, or gross artifacts NewbieJohn slinks out. ahole: The ideaand implementation came from this office Tuck. Ken sits next door ;) tuckersaur: COOL ales - glad to hear it! The BryceMaster has joined the party! AuntiAlias: I think that covers all the queue for tips/tricks about sky n fog..... so.. any other tips and tricks for sky and fog? if so, please type ! Rodney: ~! AuntiAlias: Rodney!! Rodney: For peaty turbid water, create a terrain, load some neutral gray to brackish brown very low fog, and stick a fairly transparent water plane above the top of the fog. Fog *is* part of the sky palette...... done Thrax has joined the party! AuntiAlias: : ) anyone else? The BryceMaster: ! AuntiAlias: BryceMaster! go for it! The BryceMaster: lesse, for creating a cool underwater effect AuntiAlias: if you have a tip or trick for sky n fog, please type ! 3d~?~elf: glad u didn't say BM go for it... The BryceMaster: make a flat blue sky, and use the FOG, preferrably blue or a light grey to give you the hazy depth effects you can also add a water plane above to help with the overall effect as well (swirls are nice) done AuntiAlias: ! tuckersaur: ! AuntiAlias: I'll call on myself... Clay: LOL MonkeyT: Thou art called. AuntiAlias: I've been working some with color perspective... Thrax has just left. AuntiAlias: and will have some movies up on a web site to show stuff about how it works Rodney: ! AuntiAlias: but play with the r g b sliders systematically, you get a good feel for what's there... ccasady: Where? AuntiAlias: 0 0 0 is the same as having it off The BryceMaster: yup AuntiAlias: so you can animate color perspective JeffP: Sounds good The BryceMaster: yup Calyxa: (sky lab, atmosphere tab, lower left corner) AuntiAlias: in the bottom of the atmosphere section of the Sky Lab okay. R ccasady: k AuntiAlias: Rodney! ncastle disappears in a blinding flash of smoke.
