AuntiAlias: thanks, Rodney! Chris, again! : ) ccasady: a tip for making a Pyramid? In the Terrain Editor Click "new" and get a all black terrain. Hit "Invert and it become all WHITE. eak125 wants to play too. AuntiAlias: if you have a terrain tip, please type ! ccasady: Now . . . . click on "Square Edges" and drad to the right, Viola: a perfect Pyramid Terrain. Rodney: ! ccasady: but... it needs stairs... Now to give it steps, by click-dragging on "Posterize" untill you see a nice set of stairs appear in the preview window then a little click dragging on a nois will distress it a bit more : ) slareau: ! wscottart: ! AuntiAlias: Chris is gonna be teaching on terrains at Bryce Camp in Ojai.. next month. www.tilenut.com/ojai you can see he's been preparing!!! Lonzo: ! AuntiAlias: done, Chris? ccasady: happy terraforming. Calyxa: ! Michael saunters in. KPT John disappears in a blinding flash of smoke. AuntiAlias: Queue: rodney, slareau, wcottart, lonzo, calyxa justin has more important business elsewhere. AuntiAlias: Rodney: go for it! ccasady: Yes, Thanks you. Don't forget to register for Bryce Camp Rodney: Remember, terrains are shells, not solid objects. Sometimes what you really want is a terrain turned upside down with the bottom clipped off. lharriet saunters in. Rodney: done Bev Rage: does anyone here model with symetrical lattices in the terrain editor? AuntiAlias: steve! slareau: Ok, the small animation of a negative boolean animated is here: http://www.hilltopdesign.com/temp/boring.mov It was created using a spherical light set to zero brightness. Using a light with some light added can do some very cool effects! Add a gel! Rodney: <Bev, all the time> Elysium wants to play too. Kimo is off to see the Wizard. taonow materializes from thin air. AuntiAlias: yes, terrain tips also include sym lats, too! if you got em share em! type ! done, steve? slareau: Some cool stuff can be done by adding a gel, with the light spinning as it bores into the surface. A cool goodie to play with, Rodney: ! Ringo: has anyone tried boolean/grouping lights/with textures. It works. slareau: done now. AuntiAlias: k, thanks... wscottart! you're on!! wscottart: quick waterfalls- Duplicate a terrain then add height to the new terrain- ok Ringo: sorry Rodney: I find symlatts great for cast metal text. Check out the logo at http://www.4u2c-us.com/gallery1/LWkeyart3b.jpg AuntiAlias: (in queue, lonzo, calyxa, rodney) Rodney: <sorry> Elysium: ! AuntiAlias: Lonzo! you're on!! Lonzo: When creating a particular change or terrain effect on an existing terrain- for example an exagerated slope on that beautiful mountain- dupe the existing terrain then go into the editor. Lower it until it is just barely visible- brush in the effect at the tuckersaur: ! 3d~?~elf: ? eak125: To make a beach along a terrain... Duplicate it then stretch it out and then flatten it. It will keep the contours of the original. Lonzo: height that you want. Then paint out all of the rest of the stuff you don't want. When you are finished you now have an additional terrain that will fit the original quite nicely without having to hit and miss at it. Elysium: change ! to ? AuntiAlias: queue is calyxa, rodney _-who may have jumped the gun--tuckersaur Sami23 disappears in a blinding flash of smoke. tvod materializes from thin air. AuntiAlias: we'll take questions after tips, Elysium... Lonzo: I have used this to make cliffs and giant fissures that work well into my existing terrains since they are based on the same "drawing". Done eak125: Susan, Are you moderating? AuntiAlias: (those engineers are 95 miles northwest of me, and I don't know where they are? Anyone in the building in Carp, can you run 'em down?) DigiVI: Ok, I imported a f-14 model as dxf. When I textured it, the image was distorted. The map is a 1:1 image map so it should fit. I've asked around but have not uet found the answer. DigiVI is off to render mirrored spheres. AuntiAlias: Calyxa, go for it! Calyxa: clipping works as masking (again), so use the clipping bracket to protect the high or low areas of your terrain/lattice while applying other effects to the non-masked areas. OK AuntiAlias: If you have a tip, please type ! (yes, I'm moderating!) ccasady: ! (Symm Latts) AuntiAlias: rodney? Rodney: I find symlatts great for cast metal text. Check out the logo at http://www.4u2c-us.com/gallery1/LWkeyart3b.jpg AuntiAlias: did you go already? Rodney: The "cast" effect comes from creating the text as a selection in Photoshop at 1024x1024, filling with light grey, then contractiong the selection by 3-5 pixels and feathering by the same 3-5, filling that selection with white. AuntiAlias: aaah Rodney: Be sure and clip the lattice pretty far up and compress it greatly along the Y axis. Lonzo: clipping is ok but in many instances I want parts of the new terrain to overtake the old without dominating it entirely- needs to blend well together Rodney: Sorry, if you hit return when typing in the Window it goes on line... done Suddenly KPT John appears. AuntiAlias: tuckersaur!! tuckersaur: me now? Heather slinks out. AuntiAlias: yes! Marcos has finally arrived. tuckersaur: Shop around in the new terrain editors fractal terrains at low resolution - when you find one you like turn off all the random switches (random extent, random position and random character) and change the resolution to your desired resolution say 512... MonkeyT has just entered. ahole has just entered. ahole: Hi all AuntiAlias: the queue is ccasady... TOOL materializes from thin air. AuntiAlias: if anyone has a terrain tip, please type ! bwagner has joined the party! TOOL: hello everybody bwagner slinks out. tuckersaur: or 1024 - hit the fractal button again and you will get the exact same terrain at high resolution. MetaBrian saunters in. AuntiAlias: greets, Tool.. this is moderated... we're sharing tips Galaxian has just entered. MetaBrian: Hello again TOOL: yes I got the e-mail Rodney: ! DigiVI materializes from thin air. tuckersaur: it totally give you the freedom to shop thru all the new terrain types. Pegasus disappears in a blinding flash of smoke. Galaxian: Hi I finally made it this time! I'm Peter St.Clair. tuckersaur: did you all know that already? Calyxa: no - sounds useful, thanks. AuntiAlias: ccasady, go for it! (rodney's after that) Bev Rage: ! ccasady: Somebody mentioned SYM Latts:(Symetrical Lattices) I was just going to flaunt my fish again... Symm Latts make great Fish! TOOL: I don't really have any. It seems that everybody in here knows more about Bryce than I do, so I don't really have much to off. I'm just here for observation tuckersaur: DO try those new terrain types they are killer! ccasady: you can see and exaple and tutoruial... Check out my Terrain Tutrial at: http://www.tilenut.com/ojai/images/ Sym Lat fish! done Lonzo: Clay you still here? Clay: yep AuntiAlias: (to keep the chaos down, please try to keep from extraneous typing.. thanks! if you want to talk to others, please do so in another room) tvod: i haven't had as much fun with a program since I first got Bryce 3D, I Love Poser3! taonow slinks out. Clay: ! tvod: great combo AuntiAlias: Rodney, go for it! Rodney: If you posterize one of Ken's new fractal terrains at high res you get extremely textile-like textures done tuckersaur: ! TOOL disappears in a blinding flash of smoke. Calyxa: ! Michael: I just got Bryce 4 and still have been unsuccessful in texturing a poser 3 model correctely. Any advice? Maybe a great online tutorial? KPT John: Nice one Rodney AuntiAlias: followed by bev rage, Clay, tuck, calyxa (then.. on to sky n fog!) ccasady: any particular fractal type Rodney> ? Bev Rage: bug books when scanned, make great sym lats-pests. any ortho view xlates nice... tvod: Micheal, I just learned to do that today! Marcos has just left. Elysium is off to render mirrored spheres. Hanover: Micheal, make sure you are using Poser 3.0.1 AuntiAlias: (Folks, please!! we're on tips right now.. Terrains/Symlats... if you have a tip, please type !.. I'll call on you.. otherwise, please don't interrupt the person who's got the floor!) Elysium has joined the party! Rodney: < I've done it with three or four so far, Chris. Seems to be a function of the very dense noise in his terrains. Compress radically along Y for best folded cloth effect> MonkeyT: OK, Terrain tip. On the Mac hold command control and option, then click the Picture button. Viola, the DTE. I haven't found a real good use for this yet, but it's fun. Any ideas? AuntiAlias: Clay yo;re on oops, Bev rage, I'm sorry you were first Elysium: DTE? AuntiAlias: go for it Clay: if you utilze your other software packages, like illustrator and photoshop for instance, you can create all kinds of neat structures, make a neat window frame in Illustrator, import into photoshop at the desired size make a greyscale tiff image and import Mhyper: deep texture editing Hanover: ! Lonzo: ! Clay: into Bryce and make syymetrical lattices, ok AuntiAlias: bev rage, Clay, tuck, calyxa, Hanover, Lonzo (then.. on to sky n fog!)
bev Rage, go! MetaBrian: ! Betty has just left. taonow saunters in. Galaxian is off to render mirrored spheres. Ringo: ' birdiemaker is off to render mirrored spheres.
