BryceCamp '99 Preview, April 13, 1999
Part 2

stucker: that part ROCKED

see clark - this is cool - eh?

boru: Almost everyone there was a Mac fanatic, at a time when the Mac had real bad press.

AuntiAlias: Georgia O'Keefe lived in that area of the world... in fact, she had a house at Ghost Ranch

Clark/CDS: late nites, drinks, rendering,etc..........

Clay: my kinda camp!

ccasady: I've planned all day classes, and evening seminars all week, All Bryce oriented

stucker: ultra late nights- 3am for me every night

Digital_Efx: drinks? <perk>

Clay: that's anorm for me:-)

ccasady: aeryn: Who is you were you there?

Clark/CDS: byob

AuntiAlias: Scott Tucker of the red eyes...

stucker: LOL

boru: Also, people would walk in from a day of camping or horseback riding to see a room full of computer whackos rendering terrains!

Digital_Efx: ahh welll....maybe next year...wouldnt want to embarrass myself

AuntiAlias: and it was so in the sticks that... get this....

teh computer lab wasn't locked

sepapu is off to save the world.

Clay: LOL

stucker: and running multiple machines for personal renders...

aeryn: Oh Chris, It's Jan.

AuntiAlias: no rooms were locked...

MetaJohn: I have had many requests for an Eastern Camp

AuntiAlias: made for a great, trusting, collaborative atmosphere

Digital_Efx: <~~~~Eastern here

stucker: Totally did - we loved it!

AuntiAlias: <--will help advise anyone who volunteers to set up an Eastern Camp

ccasady: yes, a lab full of computers in the desert, open 24 hours a day, no locks

quickdraw: I'd like an eastern!

Digital_Efx: maybe in the Great Smoky Mountains?

ccasady: Eastern? Fine we'll move it there in the fall if there's enough interest

JeffP: I vote for an eastern!

boru: northeastern or southeastern?

AuntiAlias: yeah... during leaf season!

but....

KPOP: Eastern would be great

stucker: that would cool

AuntiAlias: before we plan the eastern one

Calyxa: ooh, I've got relatives in the northeast...

cboswell: Have one in New Orleans.

ccasady: We've been discussing the city of Banff in Canada

AuntiAlias: how about this Ojai one?

in May

NEXT MONTH

Calyxa: woo hoo! I'm goin!

Digital_Efx: that would have to be around the 2nd week in Oct Susan

stucker: LOL

nice REdirect Suz!

AuntiAlias: yes, there is a maybe-in-the-east-when-some-brave-soul volunteers to put it together

xochi: Banff is wonderful, Ojai is fantastic too

AuntiAlias: but have we got plans for next month

actually, Chris has plans

greycheek is off to render mirrored spheres.

AuntiAlias: I hear him typing frantically behind me

JeffP: Nothern Michigan is great in the fall...

Jeffric is off to see the Wizard.

ccasady: (There's a nice place we could use in Banff)

Digital_Efx: lol

renato!: six weeks til Ojai, right?

Clay: LOL

AuntiAlias: (BTW, Chris, Bill Munns and I are all gathered together at my home studio fo rhtis)

Calyxa: hmm, got relatives in Michigan, too...

xochi: are they any one day passes to Ojai?

quickdraw: where is Banif?

ccasady:

My plans....?

C.W.T. has more important business elsewhere.

AuntiAlias: (I hear Chris tapping furiously!)

aeryn: one passes to Ojai? What do you mean, xochi?

ccasady: Oh let me adress that first. One day passes would only be possible at the last minute if there is space

stucker: Should we introduce ourselves and the courses we're teaching there anytime tonight?

greycheek wants to play too.

xochi: thanx chris :)

ccasady: if it fiulls up, I can't do that because it would bump a full time person whoi would want to attend for the entire week

I've planned all day classes, and evening seminars all week, All Bryce oriented

AuntiAlias: there are spaces still available, Chris?

greycheek has more important business elsewhere.

stucker: full time is the way to go - you get so much more that way

jalama saunters in.

ccasady: The 4 main teachers are all online here tonight

Clark/CDS: ST...did you get your pkg? no power here am working the batteries and candles...just lost another render and a big fractal ;-(

xochi: One-dayers could bring their own laptops... full-time is great, but some of us have deadlines that sasme time...

AuntiAlias: (if you can't make it this time around... we will be having a live CHAT from the evnt itself!)

ccasady: Scott, Susan, Bil and Me

stucker: pkg didnt come yet CD - just had a huge thunderblast too

aeryn disappears in a blinding flash of smoke.

ccasady: Does everybody have B4 by now?

Clay: yes

quickdraw: yep

KPOP: Yes

boru: I installed it today.

Bryguy: i do

Calyxa: just arrived here within the last 2 hours.

Jinny: yes

tommy: oh yea

JeffP: I got it.

xochi: don't we need it it to be here? :-)

jalama: got it

AuntiAlias: So Chris, did you say whether there were spaces still available?

Mar9: good mountain biking near Ojai -- how much for the Bryce camp? where's the registration

robokoneko: yep

MetaJohn: Cool Calyxa

stucker: B4 since inception for me ; )

ccasady: Yes, there are spaces, less than ten, but I think they will fill soon

AuntiAlias: www.tilenut.com/ojai

Calyxa: thanks, I said so in the lobby, but you probably missed it.

Digital_Efx disappears in a blinding flash of smoke.

boru: So what are we gonna learn?

AuntiAlias: excellent!! So there's still room to do it!

aeryn has joined the party!

AuntiAlias: <---will be teaching on Materials and DTE

ccasady: Our big retreat housing center is full but there is definatly still room inn the computer lab

AuntiAlias: in fact, last year, we had mailing list (and this year too, yes) for participants to discuss things beforehand

renato!: how many puters in the lab, chris?

ccasady: Everybody get's their own computer, and Bryce and can work all week long

AuntiAlias: we shaped the direction of a mid-day class so that it addressed what people want to know about

ccasady: 30 computers

robokoneko: ? question from a first-timer/newbie. How will you handle different levels of expertise in class. Knowing there will be Bryce Camp veterans there is a bit intimidating.

boru: iMac, right tile?

Calyxa: has there been any mail on that list yet? I've heard rumblings in brycetalk as such, but I haven't gotten any email on it.

AuntiAlias: 20 macs and 10 pee cees

aeryn slinks out.

stucker: <---will be teaching real world textures and how to make objects look used and VERY real

aeryn saunters in.

AuntiAlias: Calyxa, you going?

Calyxa: yes

AuntiAlias: : )

I know that I haven't been talking a lot to that list...

ccasady: different skill levels: yes. people level will vary, all I can say is" be there and ABSORB

Calyxa: Chris said he got my check... we're staying at the Moon's Nest, tho.

Edo! has joined the party!

Clay: I'm gonna try and come if possible, schedule issues:-(

AuntiAlias: adnb those who are exert help out the more novice....

Calyxa: if there's an email list for participants, though, I haven't seen it...

robokoneko: great, glad to hear that.

robotgeorge has finally arrived.

renato!: I was getting mail from the list at first but nothing recently

xochi: if i can't get a one-day pass, i'll sit inthe ice cream shop downtown and render in the evenings until you guys stop by... :)

AuntiAlias: I'm sure it'll pick up...

ccasady: Last year we had some absolute begginners, but the best way to attend is if you know a bit of Bryce but you really want to dig into the deeper stuff.

AuntiAlias: everyone has been deep in Bryce 4

stucker has more important business elsewhere.

AuntiAlias: when coming up for air, then the list will see more activity

boru: Last year there was a lot of cross-polination, and everyone was learning stuff. Even smart people.

Suddenly stucker appears.

AuntiAlias: lol, boru!

MetaKevin is off to save the world.

stucker: i'm back - just took a huge power hit here - big electrical storm

robotgeorge is off to render mirrored spheres.

ccasady: Yes, you'd be amazed how the attendees end up teaching each other too

AuntiAlias: rocky mountain high!.

stucker: yep!

Clay: are all the rooms and such filled up? would I have to get a hotel?

ccasady: Scott, I hope you'

AuntiAlias: like I said about the vision... Bryce is not the killer app so much as Bryce users...

ccasady: re surge protected.

Mar9 is off to see the Wizard.

AuntiAlias: I mean.. heck.... it's like.. this .... well... Bryce Talk thing! :D : D: D

xochi is off to render mirrored spheres.

KPOP: I missed last weeks chat. What are the details for this camp?

ccasady: Susan is right. When we get that many Brycers together, we reach a critical mass.

rgross has just entered.

robokoneko: are you taking suggestions for the free-form day?

stucker: surge protection just saved my butt - all i had to do was re-connect my ISP

ccasady: We all become very critical.

cboswell: Raye!

rgross: Hi All

Carthach is off to save the world.

boru: Bryce Talk is probably the smartest thing metac did since it was HSC.

Bill Munns: One of the things I plan to show at BryceCamp is a 2 minute animation of the Hanging Gardens of Babylon, at night, with all the lights choreographed to classical music. It's definitely not your average Bryce animation. There will also be a detailed present

rgross: :)

Bill Munns: It's definitely not your average Bryce animation. There will also be a detailed presentation of how the amination was created.

Bob Van Ess slinks out.

Clay: COOL!

Suddenly lharriet appears.

renato!: cool Bill, can't wait

Calyxa: sounds awesome, Bill

Clark/CDS: the amount of co-op learning is awesome!!!!

AuntiAlias: light show! cool!

robokoneko: o boy, I can hardly wait!

rgross: Bill that alone should be worth it:)

stucker: the father of Bryce (Ken Musgrave) is a great guy and a total smartass - he'll be there too!

cboswell: Hey, Lynn! :)

ccasady: I was in Ojnai day before yesterday, it was snowing

rgross: lol

ccasady: in 5 weeks the flowers should all be blooming,

lharriet: Hi all , Hi Cheryl : )

AuntiAlias: I'll be doing a walk-with-my-and-my-thought-process-as-I-work-in-the-DTE

boru: Just don't let Mo near any heavy artillery.

stucker: davey crocketts for all!

renato!: hey, who in this room is gonna be there? (besides the faculty!)

AuntiAlias: along with some basic Materials/DTE explanation... and then guide you as you all work in the DTE on your own projects

Clark/CDS: he'll bring his own

Calyxa: I

aeryn: clark, are you coming this year?

tommy: would a 50 something video editor/bryce freak feel out of place?

AuntiAlias: <--gonna be there, for sure!

Clay: I'm tryin

renato!: <------me

aeryn: me

renato!: lol Bill

KPOP wants to play too.

rgross: That's it Chris..age is a state of mind:)

AuntiAlias: I love seeing this age spread....

Bill Munns: Thanks, Quickdraw. The animation of it you're gonna love

boru: Time is an illusion

renato!: Life is an illusion

Calyxa: lunchtime doubly so

Bryguy: Time is relative

quickdraw: and I learned more from pulling apart your machu pichu (sp?) and from a few tips the other night here on brycetalk than I had in the last 2 years...

Jinny disappears in a blinding flash of smoke.

Clay: Image superceeds Reality

stucker: I have an amimation of an old favorite too... and some other surprises

AuntiAlias: quickdraw.... think of a whole week of that!!!
