Bryce Camp Image Map Website

Thursday night

Thursday night, after a full evening (BryceTalk followed by a critique of 19th century painting) the stalwart few who had any energy left stuck it out in the lab to continue work on the site. The last stragglers left at 4:00 a.m.!

More construction, still

Renato! completed his armillary sphere, to be placed in the garden scene and in the Den.

Since Scott was teaching the next day, he handed off the dolphin and his grotto-in-progress to Susan. She made it rockier, using a technique that she subsequently discussed in a Europe BryceTalk event.

The grotto scene was lit using a technique demonstrated that day by Bill Munns. Using both positive and negative lights in the scene, shining at different areas (and colored differently), added drama to the color and contrast of the grotto environment.

Combined wireframe and render view showing location of lights. Above each light is the Edit Light dialog box for that light, with settings.

The remainder of the terrain walls for the den scene were handed over to Susan.

The First Exports

The Egyptian tomb and Garden scenes reached a sufficiently-finished state to attempt the first render and HTML image map export tests.

Peder and Calyxa encountered some initial problems.

In the HTML Image export dialog box, the space for naming the server translates to a base HREF in the head tag. It works well when the page goes on a server, but didn't work well for Peder on his particular machine.

Plus, the files were generated on one machine and then transferred to another. For this kind of collaborative work, Peder found that the easiest thing was to open up the HTML file and delete the Base HREF tag (contained within the HEAD tag). So for tests, we ended up deleting the reference by hand in the generated HTML text document.

Friday

Friday, during the class, we worked some to get scenes finished up. Peder rendered a series of images for the slide show. Susan took the results and made an animating GIF with it for the slide show.

As Friday was the last day of BryceCamp, everyone scurried to transfer files so it would be in one place.

Oh for a few more hours while we were still in Ojai!

The final den and grotto scenes still needed constructing and were completed after BryceCamp was over.
